Hey there! Basically I've been going to the gym for a couple of years now and have had small gains. I've become more interested in not only gaining muscle and mass but also the nutrition and anatomy side of it. I'm curious as where one would begin in starting out in bodybuilding I.e are there clubs or do you just go it alone. Some advice would be appreciated! I live in Auckland central.

on the page your now looking at go to resources, then bodybuilding for beginners. It simplifies alot of info that can be confusing.

remember just keep it simple.

train hard, eat right, and get rest. most importantly stay consistent and motivated!!!

You can go it alone or find a partner. try and find some in the gym with same goals as you. just ask them for a spot or something and get chatting to see where theyre at. ideally you want some more advanced then you. also stay active on these forums. ask question regardless how dumb you think they are. there is also a forum for training partners. check it.

okay thanks! seems like it takes a lot of individual work. what do you guys reckon is the best way to go about setting goals and stuff. i've tried writing down my weekly weights in a journal but it never seems to last more than a couple weeks. to me this seems to be the only way to see if i'm making gains aye. having a hard copy i.e on a piece of paper works for me. any other ideas?

sweet as thank heaps! just another quick question. what's the go with alcohol and training. apart from the fact that turning up to the gym hungover is gonna result in a half assed training session, is there research saying that alcohol has an adverse affect on muscle building?

Lowering of Testosterone ring any bells ? Never favourable for muscle building.

But increases in Cortisol and having high amounts of calories result in it being quite favourable to fat gain

Most bodybuilders recommends cut out alcohol, because it's high calories drink, dehydrates, and it's a junk food IMO.
