Interesting question, gut feel at first was over 50k. Got some population stats from nz stats and made some guesses on percentage of people that could bench 100kg. Excluded females, although there are definitely a number it wouldn't be enough to have an impact. Going for 20 - 30k, probably more but think it would be under 50k.

I would have thought every healthy male over 18 in nz would be able to.

Maybe with a bit of training but out of all the kids i've seen come into the gym over the years none have been able to outright bench press 100kg sure some guys can but it's certainly not the norm. With a bit of training most can but not right of the bat.

Yeah apparently a lot of people think this is an easy lift. I see it as being a bit difficult.

I did originally think about 50k could do it. Then I thought about it.

1.4mil males aged 15-64.

At my high school (whangarei boys high) I guess there would have been no more than 5 people who could do 100kg. Probably only 2, myself and 1 other. There was 1200 boys at this school.

My father (a farmer) from 55 onwards couldn't do 100kg and he weighs 100kg +.

Mostly, only for gymers would I say this is obtainable, and even then only about 25% of males who attend a gym could do this Id guess.

If 50k ppl can do it. That's 1 in every 28 males aged from 15-64

Walking around Auckland I see very few strong looking ppl.

Right down to the chest, pause, then up to lockout... Not very many people could do this in an untrained state... apart from the segment of the population that TWL has pointed out... I've seen polynesians press 140kg first time in the gym. It took me a good couple of months of actually trying to get even 100kg locked out.

I'm sure between the Maoris, togans and Samoans there's 50,000 right there lol

Yep.

You wager a KFC family pack or any other free meal and I am sure that figure of 50,000 would shoot up to around 70,000 :pfft:

Yep.

Good points. I don't actually think as many as 1 in 28 males aged 15-64 could do it.
