Intake for a high metabolism

Hey all,

Thanks again for your previous help. After my first month I have seen some gains and love hitting the gym but wanted to fire out a few more questions for advice and piece of mind.

At the moment Ive had a look into my average day and seem to be hitting 3000cals with about 150g protein. Is just an OK amount for me seeing as I weigh 73kg at 188cm and have a fast metabolism? Ive yet to weigh in so its hard to tell from that perspective about my current diet but just to see what other posters think (just a note Im aimming for 5-10kg mass).

Other from that is there foods that are bad? I already eat healthy but say throwing in chocolate or something random for extra cals shouldnt hurt? Other thing is stuff like green tea, as it can promote fat loss and metabolism rate is that a stay clear or a cup a day is sweet?

Time to sign out from work (good use of time here!). Thanks in advance =]

what gains have you seen in your first month?

what are you eating now?

its not just all about finding your perfect calorie surplus/deficeit then expecting everything to fall into place... if it was that easy everyone would be massive and strong, or ripped and hard.

I had a fast metabolism until 28 when I started to notice the things that make it faster and concentrated on bringing those down. I spent time with some pretty big guys who were opposite, overweight and slow metabolisms and watched and copied their mannerisms...but didn't copy their diet!

Soft drinks, ice-creams, chocolate etc increase metabolism. I avoided all these things sticking just to eating whole foods. The sweetest thing I would eat was a banana for that pick-me-up.

Also people with fast metabolisms can't sit still or fidget or do other things when confined. So I noticed when my big mates were driving they were relaxed, chilled, didn't grip the steering wheel just moved it when they had to....little things like that if you are conscious you are doing it, try chilling. High metabolism people walk faster and with purpose on the street...try and take notice of this and slow right down, relax life isn't a race.

A good one for me to slow down was doing weekend long distance swimming. At first I did laps fast and got out 3-4 before tiring. Try doing 40 laps, you can only do this if you slow your pace and breathing down, and again relax it's not a race. Then take some time in the spa or sauna. If you are on the go abit you'll find it hard to just sit still and chill, but you gotta learn how to, this really helped imo.

After 2 years of this kind of thing I would say I had taught myself to slow down and it definitely now helps with my weight gain.

All the best.

Nice post Android.

I'm the same... hardwired to be running around all day... I've had to consciously slow down myself to be able to put on weight as well. Try Android's suggestions.

Also, work your legs really hard... then you gotta slow down. For a couple of days after my legs workout, my girlfriend's always complaing that I walk too slow. :)

People with a slow metabolism need to be much more careful with their diet to avoid getting fat or stay lean... they don't really need to speed up to put on weight.

relaxing while your driving is taking it abit far lol... like tapping ur fingers on the steering wheel to music is a big no no because itll burn too many calories... lol yeah right.

it actually pisses me off when everyone brings there genetics into it and uses it as an excuse.. complaining, saying my metabolism is too fast i cant build muscle or my metabolism is too slow and i cant burn fat, or no matter how much i eat i cant put weight on... its really not so much about your genetics and metabolism as it is about just working hard and being consistent.

everyone can look better than what they already look like by working harder and wanting to do it. so your either not working hard enough or your not doing it right.

quote of the day:

"dont wish it was easier, wish you were better"

It sure is mostly about hard work and consistency as you say tommsauce.

I was editing my post up there when trainlikeafreak quoted me... just so it doesn't get lost... OP think about this:

Also, work your legs really hard... then you gotta slow down. For a couple of days after my legs workout, my girlfriend's always complaining that I walk too slow.

fuckkkk yeah hear this all the time. when i was bulking at the start of the year i put quite a few kgs (clean bulk). my training partner used to bitch and moan sayin its BS because i can gain weight easy and "nomatter how much he ate he would not gain" note-eating as much as you can when you want till you litterally almost throw up does not work.

just shows how far a little bit of discipline can take you. a lot of fuys fall into the mistake being piss poor all day and then relying on mc D's for their cals and then moan when they dont get the gains they want

Andriod - So true, its one of those things you do but dont realise till someone points it out. Im just not a sitting still kind of person.

tomsammce - My questions are not intended to be complaints but instead I am seeking knowledge to help myself. Also I know its not a magical fix and I will work my way up to where I want to be but to do that I need to know more.

Anyways, previously I said I eat healthy but of course that does not mean its right for putting on the weight but heres an average day (example) for me so any advice would be cool.

BREAKFAST: x4 weetbix, 200ml milk, protein shake

MORNING TEA: fruit, peanut butter sandwich (wholegrain toast bread)

LUNCH: 1 cup white rice, can on tuna/salmon, mixed veges, fruit

AFTERNOON TEA 1: Diaryfood yoghurt, fruit, 1/2 cup mixed nuts

AFTERNOON TEA 2: 1 toast w/ baked beans & 1 toast with egg, nutbar

DINNER: pasta/potatoes, meat, veges

EVENING: protein shake, 200ml milk, fruit

OK, thats a quick breakdown, its not too detailed I know (sorry running out of time). Mornings are my weak point in that I cant eat much, for some reason I just feel sick if I try to knock back heaps of food. I always train inbetween AT2 & dinner. Back to work!

more protein morning tea, more protein afternoon tea 1 and 2... ditch baked beans they are shit food... full of shit to promote estrogen, replace them with some good carbs and add something else to fill the protein they provided.

testosterone levels can be effected by your diet bro, and if ur natural its more important to leave out the shit foods chur.
