Getting around testing

Recommended Posts

One of my best friends is one of top in NZ for Judo in his weight class and competes overseas all the time, trying to get to an olympics. he has been getting drug tested 2-3 times a year for the last 4 years out of competition (so random turn ups at his residence) so this doesnt include testing at competitions. competitions such as nationals always have high number of tests taking place and international competitions almost everyone placing high is drug tested. he is so careful about what he puts into his body, medicines from doctors for asthma and other medicines we all just take when we are sick and dont think twice about, sports supplements alot of these contain stuff that could show up as a positive test. to be fair i think powerlifters and bodybuilders are abit out of touch with what real drug testing procedure is and it proves it by people not being tested very often in the above posts. they arent popular sports therfore no one really takes much notice. judo is one of the most participated sports in the world.

it comes to funding... if you want funding u gotta be clean. positive tests can hurt a sports chances of possible funding.

I'll just chuck some 2c in here just for interests sake.

(not tooting own horn either btw)

I've won NZ titles in 5 sports, athletics, weightlifting, powerlifting, strongman and BJJ. The first 3 of those are drug-tested events. I went on the drug testing roster at age 16 and went off at 23 when I took a year off from lifting due to injury. What surprised me, is that in all that time, I only ever got drug tested once, and that was an expected test after winning PL nationals. Of course I didn't dare take anything illegal during that time, but it really surprised me how easy it would have been for me to beat a test had I wanted to. The only guys that seem to get tested out of competition regularly are the ones competing in Commonwealth or Olympic sports. Other than that, its pretty easy to work out when there will be testing and when there won't be.

SBW is on dat dere celltech bra,

Hey Wook, you reckon many BJJer's dope? being on gear would give one a huge advantage I'd think...

its not an olympic sport and they dont get funding so they can do what they please. the sport isnt affiliated with sparc so they dont get tested... its just a few guys running the big comps in nz... there is no international body....

Im a powerlifter and i am on the where abouts programme.

I have been tested quite frequently covering the last 2 years. a bout 5 times total i beleive. one of those was an out of competition test which they turned up at work at 8.30pm and had to wate till around 10.30pm before i had to go for a piss. I think it would be difficult for anyone on the ooc testing program to get away with drugs in their system in NZ. I pretty much get tested at every major NZ comp and the risk of them turning up out of the blue is just far too great.

Overseas would be a different story all together. I was at the junior worlds in september and you would think everyone is using celltech....

At the national PL champs in Tauranga this year and just before the womens flight started the technical ref came out the back into the warm up room and told us all...no swearing on the platform, exit the platform from the side etc etc and that they didnt want to find needles and syringes left behind like last year! We were a little shocked to say the least

Yeah Maasive, quite alot of use in BJJ and MMA. Understandable of course. What I've heard is some guys use something like Winstrol during their training camps to cut excess fat leading up to competition. Of course in BJJ there is no testing, MMA some.

Only real ways of heard of tested athletes in NZ getting around tests are by doing overseas camps and running HGH only cycles. Which still carries risk.

why cut fat? They are not bodybuilders? I thought the cardio would take care of that. Does fat make people fight worse?

Yeh... All fat people are homos.... :pfft:

My mates Ex British Champ at MMA ... (So not fat)...!!

This is what he used to do:

So 12 weeks out Boldenone/ Test Enanthate (2x a week)

8 weeks out switch to Viramone/ Winstrol (Mon, Wed, Fri)

4 weeks out low dose Stanazolol (winstrol) tabs and Oxy (Anavar) tabs.

To retain strength and lean muscle whilst cutting weight but without the negative effects of water retention, cramping etc... (and to avoid getting fat)... :pfft:

does it help with speed or something, make your body and limbs lighter while retaining muscle mass? Can't be aesthetic for a fight though, surely not...

I can only talk about boxing, as MMA wasn't around when I was fighting.. For a knockout punch speed is everything, thats why its important to loose any weight that isn't needed, even excess muscle bulk can slow your punch down...

I used to box at middle weight 11-7lbs (73kgs) the moment my weight increased towards 12 stone there was a noticeable decrease in punching speed & power...

I suppose with MMA its a balance between retaining as much punching power as possible, but having the strength for ground work....

And of course not getting fat/homo....... :pfft:

massive... come on mate... use ya brain lol.

fights are done in weight classes... the less fat you have the lighter you will be.. muscle has use fat doesnt... so you want to keep as much muscle as possible while being as lean as possible without being so lean that you have no energy to go the distance.

taking into account people all have diff body types, diff training methods and different nutrition methods...

some of the most leathal ppl in the world dont even look like they lift/juice.
