Gyms for tubby toddlers

We've joked on here in the past about members training their little kids to be bodybuilders. New baby? Get him into the gym as soon as he can walk. It's funny as a joke, but is it as cool in real life?

Warning over gyms for tubby tots

Gyms for tubby toddlers have started popping up across the ditch, however some experts are warning they could be dangerous.

Childcare centres across Australia are setting up gym rooms, the Herald Sun reports, with some charging a small membership fee.

One gym set range, made by PlaySafe Kids, includes a weight bench with 2kg weights, an exercise bike, rowing machines, air-walkers, an "exercise pony" and non-motorised treadmills.

PlaySafe Kids owner Angela Camardi told the Herald Sun most customers were childcare centres and parents of 3-5-year-olds.

"It's to encourage exercise and fitness, everyone is worried about childhood obesity," she told the paper.

However child psychologist Dr Michael Carr-Gregg said children should not be in gyms.

"Children should be running around playing in the mud, sandpits and jungle gyms," he told the Herald Sun.

I get a bit over these articles... as a bloke who has kids, they can hurt themselves anywhere doing seemingly anything.. why not get them used to exercise equipment and comfortable around physical activity. There's no reason not to have them and heck you can teach youngsters a lot easier than you can adults. Plus am I comfortable with my kids in a regular playground which the neighbourhood bums use for drinking in and the junkies leave their needles in? It's just a sign of the times... yes kids SHOULD be active and play outside... BUT they're not allowed to climb trees, jump creeks and all the fun stuff I did as a kid so you want them to be active give them the tools and supervise.

too many parents take the easy route and buy their kids playstations,pc's,xbox, iphones!!

give them a cardboard box, bikes, soccer ball, cricket set etc

active playing!!

kids seem to be becoming an 'accessory' or 'posession' rather than a family!

They even let them smoke cigarettes in Indonesia!!! Did you see that TV program on last night?!

The kids will use them as nothing more than another toy, they will muck around for a while then when they get bored off to the next thing. When im working out with my bro inlaw both my nephew (4) and niece(1) love to come and watch and even grab the weights and have a play. Its not like they are going to go to the extreme do a full session and completely exhaust themselves.

Just more bs for the media and the PC crew to jump on while they sit down at maccas feeding themselves and their kids full of shit.
