Please help!

for a very long time i have had intermittent pain in my right forearm that prevents me from curling heavy, the pain is such that when i grip hard i have to let go very slowly to minimize the pain upon unclenching of my hand? its worse at the top of the movement and the pain of this sets in before muscular failure and stops me from going heavy or even getting out lighter reps FUARRRRKKK!!!!!!

maybe you should see a doctor bro and get an x-ray. you may have done a bone or could be a nerve or something...only one way to find out.

Are you actually feeling it from the middle of the forearm down or more closer to the wrists?

does feel like shin splints? I used to get that in my forearms...then it went away by itself

yeah i spose that's prob a good way to describe it, ive had it on and off for years but this is the longest spell its been really bad for

Had it for years unfortunately.... try not gripping quite as hard, or as little as possible, I have to balance the bar rather than grip..

I've been told recently its all about forearm strength, build up your forearms & the pain will eventually go away....I've been trying forearm exercises using as many ranges of motion as possible & it seems to be working.....

Or you could just Toughen up Big-Boy....... :pfft: :pfft: :pfft:

lol. i wouldn't exactly say i have weak forearms have no problems holding onto 300kg without straps (chalk), but maybe that's diff strength?

Intredasting, I have something similar except in left forearm. The only things I found that helps is using an ezi bar and grabbing my forearm with the other hand and applying pressure as I let go of the bar (most painful bit).

And that's with only about 30kg lol

I used to have the exact same problem as you. Not anymore though and I can't pinpoint exactly why not. But I do think a large part of me not having the problem anymore is due to myself changing my training habits. These days I don't force anything anymore and I'm very mindful of cutting out any momentum and focussing on moving the weight with my muscles only.

I think maybe your forearm tendons might be complaining of overuse... how's your rest and recovery like?

overuse like this is common for many but not sure it's what you're experiencing these online consultations are tricky :pfft:

But many people who use computer mouse for gaming, office workers or uni students suffer from this when they get into the gym.

Using the PC during the day the outer forearm is held up by the joint to hold the hand up, no-one ever rests their entire arm weight on their mouse they're either holding it up all day, or resting their elbows on a desk and flexing their forearm backwards cause the mouse is 2inches high above the desk.

This won't go away without changing something...if it's that at all

Here's what worked for me:

Get some deep tissue work with a good physio - will fucken hurt though but thems the breaks.

While doing this back off the bicep work and do some very light hammer curls only (I started at 5kg) in total control for 15 rep sets x 3 once per week. Each week I went up 2-2.5kg still maintaining bugger all momentum while curling. (slow negatives help rebuild connective tissue from memory). When training back I used straps with a thumbles grip and avoided exercises that aggravated the forearms.

Took about 8 weeks for me to come right. Beats the usual 'have some time off training' only to reinjure when returning to training.

Curling execises on a cable machine can help relieve the stress in the forearm more than using dumbells or barbells. In my experience anyway. What worked for me was rest and time and patience, but then again I dont bother training that much with Bicep curling execises anymore.

Had this in both arms a few years ago, pain ran down the inside of the forearms, shooting pain letting go of the bar after some curls, went to the physio and he did massage and also forearm curls for strengthening, he just had me doing the eccentric part only though and would then use the other hand to help pull the weight back to the top and start over again etc, lights weights only, no more 8kg, cleared up in a few months..
