I don't see the issue with bread as long as you get a good quality bread with lots of grains and minimal processed non-sense. I think why alot of BBers steer clear of it during contest prep is because since you are limited in how much you can eat, you ideally would get your sources of carbs from the highest quality possible, containing alot of vitamins, minerals and fiber. Something to be conscious of when choosing a bread is not only carb content but also protein content which is why sources like potato, yam and rice tends to be the carb of choice during contest prep because they have a lower protein (and possibly fat but not sure).

People want to believe in IIFYM but they forget about long term health. Regardless of what your pursuits are in sport or life in general, longevity should be number one!
