Hi all,

Just curious if anyone has details on any upcoming bench press contests in NZ? details such as when and where.

I'm 94kg's 100% natural and my max BP (one rep) on free weights is 155kg's.

Is this competitive?? if not how much higher would I need to go?

Thanks

Hey

http://www.nzpowerlifting.co.nz/cms/home is where you would probably want to have a look. They have the upcoming comps listed on the calender.

Thats a good lift. You don't have to win to compete.

I have a raw lift of 150, but to comp rules with a pause on the chest. I'll probably be down about 137.5kg, and I weigh 80kgs. I'm also in the under 23 years class. I presume you're older so probably in the open mens?

Thanks lemon, just what I was after.

Being 33 looks like I would be in the open mens and 93kg class.

Would have to lose 1kg, which would be no problem.

I now see what I'm working with.

Can you enter the contest in just the bench press? (and not the deadlift and squat)

You are into the business part of the season so not to many Bench only comps ast he National Bench Champs are on October 29th.

Not a bad lift 93s are around top end 230s.

Only one comp that would be a Novice is September 17 Canterbury Bench Qualifier, Christchurch. CBC are having a comp next month the boys would be able to let you know if you can enter that one.

Thanks OldBull. If the 93's are around 230, how come on the powerlifting site its says the NZ record is 215? is it a case of most people competing, not be eligable to qualify for the records (due to drug, membership and other reasons)

The weight classes were changed this year so they are the new Standards to be broken. There were lots of arguments as a lot thought the standards were to light. there are a one or two who can Bench 230 but not to sure if they are going to the National Bench. Before you can break a record you have to be on the Drug register for 6 months, in saying that you could probably have a crack, at you local associations records, which some have a stand down of 3 months on DFS Drug Free Sports.

What area are you from?

The current records only started 1/1/2011 due to a change in the weigh classes hence the large number of standards.

Also, those records are equipped (with bench shirts) there should be some raw records next year. To break a NZ record you need to be a member of the NZPF and on the drug testing register for 6 months.

Where abouts in NZ are you? Couple of comps in Christchurch before the end of the year, also comps in Nelson and Invercargill that I know of.

I'm in Wgtn like you. With my max lift of 155 at present, by the sound of it breaking any records are a long way off. I was just curious as had no Idea of the standard required. A few people have watched me bench and have been impressed, so thought I would enquirie.
