6 weeks, help please?

Recommended Posts

This is my progress after 6 weeks of weight training.

My goal is to bulk up while trying to keep fat gain at a minimum.

Im paranoid about fat gain as I used to be quite big.

Should I start cutting or keep bulking cause I've noticed my stomach is way less tighter than what it was when I started (even though the picture says otherwise)

Any suggestions or critiques welcome!

Cheers

Don't take this the wrong way chap but the last thing you should be doing is cutting. Get your diet bang on and start lifting and gain some good muscle before you even consider a cut.

Bodybuilding/gaining muscle or whatever people want to refer to it as doesn't happen in a short length of time. Go check out the diet and nutrition forums to help work out a diet and get lifting.

And my workout plan is here:

Ive been told to split it up in either a 3-day or 5-day split which I am starting to do now. Any ideas?

This website is full of great forums and heaps of people who have great advice which is awesome!

Cheers!

If you keep your diet relatively clean and don't go over board with fat and carbs you will bulk without putting on too much fat.

Thanks for the advice dc1!

My diet is pretty clean, I have minimal simple carbs and my main complex is oats and weetbix. And my fats come from nuts and cheese and Im starting to cook my scrambled eggs with a bit more oil to get some more in my diet!

Something to consider is when you're gaining fat by bulking. You may actually overall be lowering your fat % and overall look of fat on your body. This is because the amount of muscle you're putting on is more than the amount of fat. This is more likely to happen at the beginning of weight training.

I don't think you should worry too much about getting fat. Aslong as your diet is reasonable and you're lifting weights at an intense level (doesnt have to be heavy, you just gotta go hard). Then you shouldn't get very fat at all.

TLDR:

Bulk

No offense but this is a troll right? You look barely different from the first pic, you are as skinny as a rake and are asking if you should cut...

None taken, im not taking the piss (if thats what you mean by troll). I know Im skinny but thats what Im worried about..the very little difference...Ive had a good increase in strength but very little change in looks, thats why I thought I would try get some advice here.

I think you have to read between the lines here, Pyro. YOU know how cutting works, and that it's not the right approach in this case. But Askaz014 is a newbie, so when he says "cut", he probably means he just wants more defined muscles. And for him, that means a lean bulk.

Askaz, welcome to the forum, and good on you for posting pics. I see you've already found the Diet/Nutrition forum - that's going to be your biggest tool in achieving your goals.

Thanks Pseudonym! Yea thats exactly what Im wanting to do, I guess cutting wasnt the right term, sorry about that :(

Im not wanting to get huge Im just wanting to get noticeably bigger as I have been this skinny and known to be skinny for all of my teens and I am now wanting to change that now. I would sign up for a gym and go to a nutritionalist but on a student budget thats not really an option so this place is the next best thing!

If I was you I would get your test count done.

My younger brother looked like you at 14, the doctor took one look at him and said he needed a testosterone check as low test at his age will cause his development to be slow, and could make him infertile.

It was low, like 4nmols, so he went to the specialist and the specialist offered him replacement therapy... for some reason he didnt take it.

Dont be tricked into all the crap about drug use and 'steroid abusers' if it is low, get it done.

Dont let ethics and media get in the way of you living a healthy life, synthetic hormones are made to help with hundreds of conditions like aids and muscle wasting diseases, and people you were looked poorky on by nature.

Lots of young kids now have low test due to enviromental factors, your not alone.

If your test is fine, start shovelling food in your gob like oats, whole eggs, milk and lean meats.

You appear to be an ectomorph and this body type centers around the nervous system, (unlike the other body types that centre around the heart and digestive system) so avoid stimulants.

what is this?

Means the kid burns caloires faster than most naturally - so stimulants which speed up your metabolism are the last thing he needs.

Exactly :D

And things like casein protein and oats are perfect for him as these are slow digesting

I think he needs to start lifting some heavy sh!t and see how his body reacts first. You put your body under stress and it will respond... testosterone levels will go up as a response. I betcha he has enough potential to produce testosterone in him already to satisfy his goals. He doesn't want to be a monster from the sounds of it. :)

Possibly, that could work :D Mind you, food like meats and animal fats should bump up his testosterone and improve his mass shouldn't it? I found a sweet spot with olive oil , I usually have 8 tablespoons at about noon and before bed im bright red and pumped... Not sure if there's a connection there, but I'm never like that without the olive oil...just a thought
