Legs legs and more legs

Recommended Posts

I got the thumbs up from my surgeon on Monday to start light training again after my thoracotomy. Which if ya dont know, entails slicing right through the lat, opening the ribs and cutting through the plura (diaphram). Takes a while to heal if like me you suffer from diabetes and get an infection. (easier to get and harder to fight when you have diabetes Im told).

Anyway long story short (yeah too late, I know) instead of training light which will only lead to me pushing my luck and reopening the wound. I think I'm just gonna do legs only for a few weeks.

Only question is, should I build up to a full heavy leg workout twice a week-ish or to fill my gym cravings, could I break the workout down to individual muscles and work on one per session? Ie, quads on one day, hammys another, calfs another, glutes another (only know one glute iso excersize though?).

I know as I type this I'm prob gonna be working against myself breaking it down. But still interested to hear opinions on the idea.

Thanks

Thanks Weener, I take your point. However I think I may have confused the question by stating heavy. I have weak legs through having wrecked my right knee. So for me to build up to heavy (relative term based on heavy for weak little ol' me) will take at least 4 weeks of slow build up anyway. That is to do some heavy sets of leg press, maybe hack squats? Would be mostly ham curls n quad extensions for first couple of weeks leading up to that.

In 4 weeks from now I'll be at week 11-12 since the op and its at week 12 that Im told I'll be clear to start pulling weight with my lats. Surgeon was just concerned that I dont start doing chin ups or heavy pulls right now at week 7.

Have I thought this out properly or do you think I'm just fooling myself?

if you can only train legs half assed and no upper body then what are you acheiving? better of just listening to your doc and wait to you get the all clear just stick to rehab stuff and abit of cardio whats another couple of months you still have the rest of your life to train

Liked.

Its a marathon not a sprint. Go with professionals advice on rehab then when ur good to go SFW (smash fucken weights) with a vengeance!! You'll be better off in the long run.

Use the down time to learn & plan - time well spent!
