Pseudonym
Perhaps this old Mac Davis song should be the bodybuilding anthem?!Oh Lord it's hard to be humbleWhen you're perfect in every wayI can't wait to look in the mirrorCuz I get better lookin each dayTo know me is to love meI must be a hell of a manOh Lord it's hard to be humbleBut I'm doin' the best that I canI guess you could say I am a lonerA cowboy all locked up and proudWell I could have lots of friends if I wantedBut then I wouldn't stand out in a crowdSome folks say that I'm egotisticalHell I don't even know what that meansI guess it has something to do with the wayThat I fill out my skin tight blue jeansSee the full song, complete with MP3 recording, here: http://www.minibite.com/oldies/humble.htmSeriously though, I'm sure we've all met the bodybuilder (usually young and male) who swaggers about the place thinking he's the best thing ever - there's one in every gym. Does our sport attract these types of people, or is there something about growing bigger that transforms previously decent people into arrogant pricks?Bodybuilding is excellent at building up self esteem for those who need it. But it seems its downside is also increasing self esteem for those who don't. We call too much self esteem pride and arrogance.A word of warning then to up-and-coming young male bodybuilders: beware! Enjoy your sport, take a small amount of pride in your progress, but don't let your ego get out of control. Please try to stay humble, hard though it may be!Remember, it completely spoils the effect of big muscles if your head has swollen even bigger.

deegee
yeah, I have seen many of those types in the gym, they are not really bodybuilders though, more so just guys who want to look good to themselves in the mirror and impress girls. I have a mate who is just the same, want bulk because de doesn't want to loose his abs. wont live too heavy because he doesn't want to get too big. He spens alot of time in the gym flexing and chatting with people and checking himself out in the mirror, there are pleanty of others around like him too. I wouldnt call any of them bodybuilders.Having said that sadly you do see some genuine bodybuilders who are just vain and big show ponnies in the gym. Good for a laugh sometimes though.I have been caught admiring myself in the mirror as well but luckily not too often!
