Hi there. For a routine I would do full body routine 3x per week.

Bench press

Squat

Deadlift

Military press

maybe dips and reverse grip pullups if you want

Make sure you get someone to show you correct form.

Take a protein powder and creatine after workout and maybe some protein before as well. Dont waste you money on mass gainers. Make sure you never go hungry but dont eat heaps of shit. Meat, eggs and spuds etc.

Hope that helps but youll prob get some better advice.

Should look into strong lifts 5x5 if your a complete newbie. Incorporates the Squat, Bench, Dead, Military press and rows. Pretty much all you need is a barbell, weights, bench and a rack, wouldn't worry about any of the isolation type stuff. Basic as too once you've got the movements/form down (you could get a trainer to show you if your not confident). Workout lasts about an hour and on top of that you just eat and sleep, hard. If you find your not putting on weight doin this program, eat more.

When at the gym observe what the biggest guys are doing and copy them. Can't go wrong doing that.

That's my 2 cents.

Good luck.

LOL This is terrible advice. Ask the big guys on here like Harry, SG and Android and you'd get conflicting theories on how they train but they'd probably agree on one thing. What works for one guy may not work for the next. Plus they may not be training the same way now as they did when they were putting all that mass on.

My advice, do what no one wants to do these days and go pay for a PT, with credentials and successful clients, to train you for a week

That's exactly why my advice is not terrible but good advice. If you copy what the big guys do and keep tabs on how you respond then eventually you will hit upon what works for you.

I've read their training logs and watched Android train (he trains at the same gym as I). Progressive overload is central to the way they train and they all use good form. If this guy really were to look at how they train he would pick that up from them. How is that bad advice? lol

Cause I've seen people try and copy me and they end up doing it wrong or don't know how to use the muscle properly.

Just cause you watch someone squat doesn't mean you can do it the exact same, perfect every time. Newbies need to learn the correct way to do things. It isn't as simple as going from point a to point b and then back to a

I agree... but what you forget is that most people need to fail before they succeed. If you put enough effort in to learn what works for you, eventually you'll find the most efficient route from point a to point b to achieve your goals. And watching/copying the big guys or even getting them to train you is not a bad way to go about it. Copying is cheaper though. :)

Tagging along would work fine if you can find someone willing and knowledgeable enough but watching from across the gym and copying what someone else does is still a bad idea in my opinion. Just get the balls up to ask them for a quick bit of advice

wtf someone's watching me

I (like PD has said) and others, don't train how I used to train, but how I used to train was valid (back then I think it was) so hope you don't miss anything that's all. I also cycle training haphazardly sometimes I feel really strong so I won't go high volume I'll take advantage of how strong I feel and go heavy, other times it's light-as girlie weights and pumping blood, mostly though it's in the 12-20 rep range.

Probably if someone is watching me I'd say at least copy the intensity and failure that I go to, but with your own weights.

Btw if you see me lying back on a bench for 20mins...I'm working up to my next set

Have to agree with PD here. Even in my very limited experience I can tell that there is a big gap between noticing that the huge guy with the ripped abs does pull ups every Monday night, to realising that there are very small but very important techniques/tips that will make the difference between average and great results.

One perfect example is that many newbies are guilty of only doing partial reps (I was a good example of this!). As a newbie, you can think because you're on the same pull up bar with the same hand placement that you're doing the same thing as the big guy. All it takes is for someone to say 'mate, go aaaalllllll the way down before you try to go back up!'.

A cheaper option to a PT, if you can swing it, is to sponge off mates who already pay for a PT or who know what they are doing. Just work out with them and do what they do! Works for me :pfft:

Haha well there is a lot of downtime in the gym in between sets. Not much fun staring at the ground.

All I'm saying here is that you learn by observation and then trial and error. If you really are dedicated you will find out what works for you if you put in enough effort.

You're a bodybuilder, you like it :pfft:

I (like PD has said) and others, don't train how I used to train, but how I used to train was valid (back then I think it was) so hope you don't miss anything that's all

Yeah, what I'm saying is what put the mass there isn't necessarily what you are doing now (not that what you do now isn't doing the trick too). Case and point would be how you say that you don't often go to 4 wheels per side on a squat because you've never really felt it has given you the stimulation that 3 wheels has. This is something you've learned about your body

A good point here that I forgot about is that you don't know what someone is trying to achieve with their training and where they are in their training cycles

Sorry yeahbuddy, they way I said it sounded like I was trying to crucify you. I'm low on carbs so don't hate

Pams tuna in brine that's cheap to buy.

Gym Rat do you actually eat this. This is just cat food prep'd under food safe conditions fit for human consumption. Atleast go spring water man. Theres just something about the brine. I thought you were into the Home Brand Stuff? What happened?
