Competition Tan

Recommended Posts

Pete, if you are pasty (like me) I would go for 3 coats of Pro Tan or Dream Tan Base done on Thursday night, Friday morning and Friday Afternoon, with a coat of dream tan (or preferably two coats if necassary) on the day before pre judging.

This will guarentee a deep colour on the day which will look great under stage lights.

The worst thing is too have a great physique, great posing and piss poor colour.

Good luck mate

Hey PD

I remember last year you were not happy with your Protan contest colour, coming in to light. you should definitely give this a try if your keen - made me dark as but not Orange.

Contest colour base coat

Wednesday morn 1 coat - night shower then another coat

Thursday morn, shower 1 coat - night shower then another coat

Friday morn shower, 1 coat - night shower then another coat

Sat shower, let dry - light coat of shimmer, then back stage touchups

sounds like brain surgery but it works and its consistent man - trust me if you were darker last year you def would have had top honors.

your thoughts?

M

Tan easy

Contest colour foaming mouse

Tan Master

From Phil Kabakoff

Anyone have good reports of this stuff..?

Anyone have good reports of this stuff..?

The Kabakof stuff is very easy to use (putting on and off) but I had problems wit getting a good stage color with it. One show was perfect and the other two had comments from the judges how my tan almost lost it for me. Thing is I did nothing different for all the shows.

Honestly I think it's a bit of a risk, one I wasn't prepared to take any longer and went back to Dream Tan.

Thanks for that WL, we'll see what happens next week with the tan & the judges.............

I spray on a base (5 coats phil K) ... sounds a lot but with spraying you get need a few more applications than sponging on a base.

1 coat dream tan in the morn (before regos) then another at the show.

Depends on your natural skin tone as to how much base you will need and what type of top coat you use.

Using a base that will help to dry the skin slightly and make the topcoat adhere a little better is always the key.

Trial before a show in an inconspicuous place is a great idea.

Tester pots or bottles can often save loads of $$$

Great price and gives you the full range

Be careful if you have sensitive skin, pro tan is very drying which is great for subcutaneous water, but it can cause an itchy blotchy mess. I get a dark spray tan (2coats) at a beauty clinic the day before comp, then add dream tan on the morning of the comp, let it settle for an hour then hairspray body to set tan. All that is needed backstage is a touch up, super easy.

More the answer I'm after. Thanks guys but I wanna know what others use for themselves, not what they recommend for me haha

Used 4-5 coats of pro tan followed by one of dream tan. To be honest I hate the pro tan, hangs around for bloody ages and last time stuffed my skin a fair bit. I did one year where I just used dream tan over some already tanned skin...I have to admit, I couldnt really tell the difference from doing that compared to when I had pro tan and I loved cleaning the dream off and being back to normal straight away.

  • 2 weeks later...

my skin dosent like base tan type products makes my skin feel clogged and the oily smell can make you smell like a warm crayon not good for sleep.if I was to use a base tan id put it on two days before so my skin can get used to it.I have used just dream tan but it takes the guys longer to put on and as soon as you put your hand on it it will go straight through to light skin.

Id just go to the local spray booth at the gym ,i have a bottle of contest colour but never used it as im not sure if its supposed to be a final coat colour which might not work with dream tan or just make my skin extra irratated for no benefit.

I use a few coats of contest colour, but have a light shower in between coats to even everything out. So probably takes more coats to get the right darkness. Plus I tan a lot leading up and I'm naturally brown already. Then just a tough of Jan tana stage colour to finish it off or dream tan if I am not dark enough. When I am lazy I will just rock up white as and use dream tan. Anytime I have helped really pale people cough PD cough them dream tan is the business.
