First of all, please leave the detective work to the mods. We do check, and in this case, there's nothing linking Ivanka to any other account.

Secondly, I think what Ivanka has said has been blown way out of proportion.

The study she posted was interesting, but we have to be careful how we interpret it. It shows that an unusually high number of domestic violence cases also have a background of road rage incidents. And that's ALL it shows.

So the two are related, in some way. But the study doesn't show that you can automatically assume all domestic violence cases will have road rage issues. And it CERTAINLY doesn't show that all road rage offenders will commit domestic violence - it doesn't even show a significant percentage of them do.

That's where this study fails to support Ivanka's argument. To say that because most domestics had prior road rage, then you can assume that road rage offenders will also commit domestic violence - well, that's just faulty logic. It's like saying that because all chickens are birds, then all birds must be chickens.

So I don't think the study helped Ivanka's argument. But I don't think she needed it anyway. If I understand her correctly, all she's saying is this:

- If a driver snaps and assaults someone in a road rage incident, he has a short fuse.

- If he has a short fuse, he's more likely to snap in other situations too.

That seems so obvious that the statement's almost redundant. But it also seems to have generated a lot of argument for what's basically just common sense. :D

Wow. I didn't think I'd be dissecting a road rage/domestic violence study this evening. :P

All I’m suggesting is that there is a correlation between ‘Road Rage’, in its more extreme form and that of domestic abuse. Whilst anger may trigger instances of both Road Rage and domestic violence, the real issue is a loss of perspective and control.

People who physically assault someone over a minor traffic incident experience that same loss of control and perspective as those that commit acts of domestic abuse.

a correlation between ‘Road Rage’, in its more extreme form and that of domestic abuse

No, what you are doing is taking data on people convicted of domestic abuse & seeing if they have committed other violence related offenses..

And guess what, they have...

A big difference on looking at statistics of road rage, then finding the percentage committing domestic abuse....

People who physically assault someone over a minor traffic incident experience that same loss of control and perspective as those that commit acts of domestic abuse

Loss of control Yes, likely hood that the majority will go home & beat the wife and kids No..

Most people can distinguish a one-on-one between adults, and hitting women & children....

I work with a few dudes that have roadrage as we do a lot of driving in my job and the guys that have it are opinionated and tend to spend a lot of time defending why they are right about things when a lot of the time theyre wrong lol. They are also the worst drivers as they cant comprehend that someone might make a wrong turn so they dont prepare expecting others to "just do the right thing or else rahh!" and we nearly crash and come to think of it have crashed on a few occations.

This thread sucks.

Went and visited Dale this week. He's doing well and handled 3 weeks prison just fine. Someone who is actually strong does command respect from most.

First judge gave him 21 months jail. He appealed and asked for home D. Parole board apparently said jail was excessive and recommended a community service sentence. He got put infront of a 2nd judge, who agreed the term was excessive and gave him 9 months home D, split daily between his house and gym/work. A much better outcome in a situation where I strongly believe he was shortcharged by an excessively harsh judge who held a number of things needlessly against him.

Totally agree Wookie. The first judge would have taken one look at Dale and passed some kind of personal judgement on him even before hearing the case. Never a good thing being physically big when you are called up for assault. I have had a few friends get the same treatment because of their size but thier sentencing was nothing likes Dales. His judgement was beyond excessive. Glad to hear it was reduced to HD and CS...I will contact him during the week to see how he's going.
