    • 150kg is a rather huge jump in 12 weeks, most likely not feasible.

    • 150kg?? thats baby weights, you should be nailing more than that in 12 weeks easily!

    • Very high probability of varvenz nailing 150kg in 12 weeks.

I think if you're squatting that much, you need to learn to squat right first. My squatting technique isn't that good, but my bet is you could probably do with just being tighter and improving your form. If you can get a video of you squatting, I'll hit you up with some tips.

If you've never done heavy GM's, SLDL and stuff, I don't think Westside would be the right program for 3 months.

I'd be keeping it simple with some Pyramidding, 5x5, heavy partials etc.

Just a question, if you miss a squat, where about do you lose it?

I use a very wide stance. The first part of my squat involves pushing my ass out as much as possible, and then I descend . I practice this on the box. Where I get stuck: I fire off the box well, with considerable force. So the 'hole' or the bottom is not the issue. I get stuck about 2 inches off the box . Once I clear the box I move up about 2 inches and this is the stickinig point. I start to 'shake' and I seem to compensate by driving unevenly, i.e. one side goes a bit slack and the other compensates. So Im trying to figure out what the weakness is.

I was thinking more explosive dynamic effort work in the 50 to 60% of 1rm range would help me develop a consistent drive. Was also thinking if I push my hips through at the sticking point I might be able to overcome it better, in which case more deadlifts would help my hip drive right ??

Ill get a video soon'ish, might have a squat sessions with Exp Urine next week , so might get some footaget then.

I dunno man, I can't speak for wide stance squatting. I use a wide stance, but not westside, superwide. One can still lift big weights with a narrower stance and IMO the sticking points are easier to drive through. I'm honestly not a big fan of westside training, it works, but its definitely aimed at equipped lifters and it's really a crappy program if the deadlift is to come up.

Never the less, if you're looking to get the hips through earlier, practice it in the squat itself. The wide stance squat is a fairly complicated movement (nothing like an Oly lift, but not easy) and IMO needs to be practised often to work. Always breaking the lift down as Louie asks isn't always needed. To get good at squatting, you must squat, simple. I got my squat up with back squats, once in a while some heavy half squats, powercleans and pylo's. Thats it.

I guess (I'm tired, so correct me if I'm wrong) sumo rack pulls could help for getting the hips through.

Keep at it man, I could bet EU would try turn you over to the dark side and make you squat Oly high bar stance...

  • 2 weeks later...

Looks like we all (V.V, EU, me and someone else I forgot) may be having a squat session Monday night. Hope it happens cause although I'm not ready for a big PB squat, I feel like handling something decently over 220kg
