<Training> If you could go back in time

Recommended Posts

To all the experienced, old and wise bodybuilders out there - If you could go back in time what would you have changed? Like with the immense knowledge you gained over time, what training method would you NOT have done? And also some of the things you wish you incorporated earlier into your training life?

Things you thought you were doing perfectly good but only later to realise it was waste of time, things you didn't know about but later thought "I should've started doing this a long time ago".

For me, I wish I could go back and not have done brainless cardio 5 days a week for upto 2 hours on empty stomach, lost a lot of lean muscle.

Thanks in advance for your input. :)

I wish I didn't piss around in the gym back in my early teens, perhaps not listened to the trainer(s) and done some research on routines, not eaten BK before lifting @ the gym (pretty much should of cleaned up my diet more)

and maybe would of hung out/listened to Mark Spooner more and payed attention to what he ate (until 6th or 7th form he had never tried KFC...wasn't until that I got a couple of boxes the night before from work and I hooked up the boys with them that he tried it )

Not pissed around with muscletech (and similar) supps, learnt to eat better (went through a long phase of just one square meal bars and/or chicken breasts ), took advantage of my gym membership more often when I was 14-17 (free, courtesy of the parents - but for a year or so of it I only went once a month to piss around), not taken a couple of years off in my late teens, trained the compounds more often (instead of *just* bench) and not been so focused on my "guns" (to be fair, glad to have gotten that phase of my life out in the teens, instead of early 20s), focused more on gaining strength...

Man, the list goes on! I bet it will extend more in 10 years when I look back on what I'm doing now :pfft:

Wish I spent the time and money and invested in some proper coaching/personal training in regards to learning the correct technique on main compounds. Because when I found out I was squatting incorrectly, I found it hard to change the motor pattern.

neither experienced nor a bodybuilder but i have learnt a few things

not take 18months off training. keep going at all costs.

this. ^^

nutrition > training

training smarter > training harder

real gear > overpriced 'supps'

finding what works for you > trying to copy what works for someone else

If I could go back in time:

1. less over thinking, eat, lift, eat, rest repeat

2. more purpose and fun put into the training, gains and conditioning dont come easy, if your playing to win gotta be in it for the long haul. To stay motivated its best to enjoy the act of lifting

3. rely less on internet templates and do whats best for myself
