I do Jim Wendler's 5/3/1-program (therefore the log name). In this week I'm deloading. I'm from Copehagen, Denmark. I train for fun. Not for competition. Should be more than enough info for today.

Also: I'm pretty weak. But especially my squat is weak - this is due to long term (chronic) injury.

It appears to me that taller folks benefit from roundbacking as oppose to their more vertically challenged peers. YES/NO/COMMENTS?

We have had this discussion about tall versus short and sumo vs regular etc etc etc and the general consensus seemed to be that it was largely down to personal preference. There seemed to be evidence supporting all styles and techniques. Confusing eh lol... I guess just do what feels natural.

Hi Guys,

Thanks a lot for the comments! You know how it is; when you can't do something (say deadlift 200kg - which happens to be my 2011 goal) you start making up bad excuses and crazy hypotheses, instead of figuring out how I got 160, 170 and 180 up...

HarryB,

It is my belief, if you are misinformed you would be much more inclined to do the "wrong" thing compared to a situation where you have absolutely no information and "flip a coin". Do not really know why I had to comment on that :) Might be because my Master's thesis is fudging boring atm.

Good Friday everyone. I'll try to stay away from the infamous %s

Start: Jim Wendler, 3rd cycle

March 28th, 2011

Weight (kg): 88,6 (-0,7)

BF%: 13,5 (-0,4)

5-3-1: Deadlift (kg)

14@145

Supps: 2 x scoops Anabolic Beast prior to WO - gave me extreme nosebleeding (!)

I consider starting a "kinda Paleo"-diet from the 10th of April and stick to it for 10 weeks. A BF% around 10-11 would not hurt my appearance. But then again, last time I tried the Paleo, I realized two things: i) Paleo is VERY expensive, and ii) Paleo works but it comes at a cost - you do not have the fuel to hit the weights hard for 70 minutes+. So this time I will allow some pre- and post-wo carbs such as rice and oatmeal. Also, I think I would need around 4 "drinking-cards"; meaning 4 nights where I'm allowed to drink and eat whatevah I like :)

Feel free to comment. Is my plan too unserious? I cutted down to <8 BF% two years ago. With a strict diet-plan and lots of cardio. I looked insane ripped and all, but really more like a surfer-dude than a gym-rat :) (Not really aiming for any of them)

Thanks for asking. Nope, I don't do the "Not Doing Jack Shit" version.

I do the so called Triumvirate version. I'm very flexible though. "Normally", it looks something like this:

  • Deadlift - Goodmornings & Leg Raises
Bench Press - Incline DB presses & Supine Rows
    Squat - Squats & Lunges
    Military Press - Dips & Chin-ups

I do the Big But Boring set and rep range for the assistance work, meaning 5x10 (confusing, inno - the 3x15 rep-range did not suit me at all). I try to focus on "getting-it-done", this means that I don't really up the weight I'd rather decrease my rest period between sets. My approach is more bodybuilder-like; it's there to build mass and muscles. So, intensity is alpha&omega. I rest as much as I need (3+ minutes) before my work set.

If I feel bored with some of the assistance work, I just don't do it, and go with something different next time. For example my Supine Rows used to be BB Rows, and before that DB rows. And last friday, I did Behind the Neck Jerks and Dips (no Chin-ups)... just because I felt like it. When I think about it, I've cut Squats out and stick to Lunges. I wish, I could do Leg Presses but we don't have the machine.

I do not train for competition. Purely, for my own pleasure. There's about a million things (or at least a few) I would do different if I were to take my training that serious.

5-3-1: Bench Press (kg)

13@105 kinda lost count. useless idiot.

Supps: 2 x scoops Anabolic Beast.

Stomach feels a lot better. Think I managed to get through my illness w/o too much of a weight loss. We'll see on Monday.

Also, I up'ed my assistance work to 36 kg DB slight incline press (used to do 32). Increased the rest period to 100 sec. Nearly failed the last rep on the last set (doing 5x10). But I think, I'll stick to it. Let's see.

Weight: 88,7 kg (+0,1) ..wanna weigh around 84-85 in 1 month time. Problem is that my appetite for bacon and chocolate is absolutely unmanageable these days... pregnancy? I don't believe in cardio. Solely diet.

BF%: 13,6 (+0,1)

5-3-1: Bench Press (kg)

12@110

Supps: 2 x scoops Anabolic Beast.

6@65

Supps: 2 x scoops Anabolic Beast.

Whenever I do Military Press I struggle like crazy on the first rep. Friggin' anoying (inputs anyone?). I'll be doing 70 for 1+ in two months. Should be possible. Brah at the gym challenged me: First to mili 70 for 5 reps... it would be straight up epic to do that in 2 months.

Start: 4th cycle of Wendler's 5/3/1 (acknowledgement: either I started too low or my increments are to small. Pick one. What do u prefer? Starting low with (relatively) high progression or the other way around?

5-3-1: Deadlift (kg)

13@145 ... I think. Lost count.

Supps: 2x scoops of Anabolic Beast.

My personal preference would be to start higher with the lower progression. Nothing to back that up at all other than that's how I'd rather do it

Nice workouts bro
