Oros
Every second Saterday, just I train at various other gyms in the area (Howick/Meadowlands/Penrose/Manukau etc).I just pick a gym, pay as a casual, and train whatever body-part fall on that particular day.Have you noticed that you walk into a business where weight training & fitness is obviously the core of that business, and usually the first person (employee) you interact with at that business, is either a weedy young dude (pencil wrists, pigeon chest), or a podgy woman (two hippos humping in her track-pants when she walks) who have achieved/done this, that and the other certificate at Blah,Blah Blah Training Institute, but, by appearance, would not be anybody you would even remotely consider approaching for advice on weight training. You pay your money, enter the gym, and there before you, training in that very facility, are the people with the physiques that you would expect every gym employee to be flaunting & striving to improve! (Regardless of the paper qualification!)I know NZ is very PC, but somethings are just not right, it's no wonder KFC & Macdonalds are "winning"
Brad
Gotta say my gym isn't bad - most of the guy employees are at least fit - even if they're skinny it's cuz they choose to be, for their sport. The girls that work there also aren't overweight. But you're right, some members are in better shape than the instructors
waldo
I once worked with a bunch of 'pidgeon' chested guys in a small corporate gym....they had all represented their country in certain endurance based disciplines. In the mainstream fitness business, you get all walks of life working. Recognised qualifications normally give enough knowledge to pass onto the average joe advice on resistance training. As per, if you need something more specific, you seek it out from those that know. Oros
It would just be great to walk into a training facility and be "confronted" (and I mean that in the inspiring way, not the guard duty or bouncer type confrontation) by a person of serious muscular proportion.Just as some-one posted a picture of Arnold and said "I want calves like THAT!", it would be good to see gym instructors who's advice is based on obvious experience and not a bunch of opinions & theories (proven or otherwise). But then again, I suppose, it depends entirely on the business plan or clients the gym is trying to target. I would imagine the ratio of "serious bodybuilders" vs "just want to get fit & flab free" would easily be 1:100, so a MASS OF MUSCLE behind the reception counter would probably just scare off the majority of the average, slightly over weight, Mom-&-Dad crowd, who are the undenyable core crowd in 99% of the gyms I visited. waldo
There are only a few BB gyms left, and even fewer weightlifting/powerlifting ones. It's mum and dad that pay the bills. As you correctly stated, the mass of muscle intimidates the average.
