I had peck major tear in July '08 benching 170kg.

My biceps was just as bruised and began to hurt.

I was unlucky in the fact that the muscle tore out of the tendon. Which means it could not be re-attached.This was only discovered after the surgeon cut me open. I still had to spend 6 weeks with my arm in a sling. After which i had 6 months of physio to try and get proper movement back. I couldn't even bench the bar when i finally started training again. So in short I've lost a lot of size on my chest. And on a good day can only bench 100kg. Worse part is the obvious deformity on the one side.

Good luck with your recovery.

Sorry to hear about it bro, i know it's a hard pill to swallow. I almost had to face that possibillity but luckily mine was fixable.

And the deformaty is a pain cause even after mine being fixed i still have a defect. My bench is still very low at this moment but getting better almost every weekI probably benching at about 10% of my strenght that it use to be.

Good luck and just keep training man and hopefully it your bench will pick up.

These sorts of injuries seem relatively common. Do you have any advice on how to avoid something like this happening. Would you have done anything differently looking back or do you think going heavy just carries these risks?

The only advice i can give from this experience is, if you are a powerlifter/bodybuilder, keep yourself flexible. I know some of you might think its homo but start doing yoga. It freakin helps alot.

Other than that i would not have done anything different.
