Partner sabotaging my diet with treats...

Hi Ladies...

This past December I decided to get in shape after events possessed me to take some shots of myself in a bikini to see what people see when I go to the beach...

Forever, my loving partner has always told me I am beautiful... and it worked until I saw for myself what he could see...

I have been losing weight and working out... but he still brings on those treats and resisting is a challenge....

Especially those Anzac bicys kill me.

What do you do when your partner is not yet on board your new lifestyle of healthy eating...

Tell them to respect you enough for the decision that you have made. Also, have some will power to not eat it. If you really want to eat it, keep it for your cheat day, that way you feel like you have earned it! :)

If you want your body bad enough, you will refrain despite how much you want it. :)

My lovely husband keeps getting me lollipops which I tell him to hide till Saturday :)

Aren't most of them taken anyway lol

So so true...

He plans to start 6 months from now :-s ... God knows we both need to get ti together... :?

The endless barbaques at our place with me not eating as much really took its toll... of course I did what i had to and resisted... and have lost 6 kilos this summer... down to 64 kilos and loving it... but damn... it is so hard to say no  ... and valentines day is coming.... he knows I strictly have <70% dark chocolate only cause I can eat about 4 squares on my cheat day and save the rest for another day.... if I get any milk chocolate... i will have to re-wrap and give it away....

Powers that be give me the strength to say no... :)

add a singles room on the forum?

Isn't that what all the searching for training partners threads are for? :pfft:

I think its just a matter of discipline Yenegh initially it will be hard to refuse these "treats" but eventually you won't even be tempted.

I tell my wife she is beautiful (she is) and sometimes buy her treats and flowers. She loves them (especially the chocolates), I don't buy her treats, she complains that I don't care. I do buy her treats, she scoffs them then compains she is getting fat.

I offered to pay for a trainer in a private studio for here for 6 months and get declined (badly)

Sometimes you can't win.

@ Maximus I can understand how you feel.

I must admit getting declined for

is rather a tough one to take... she must have had a really good reason like work. Being an architectural drafter myself I know how busy things can get... it consumes you really... if you let it :disgusted: . I wish you luck with that though.

I do decline with full credits to him for making any effort at all and I do not complain that he does not do those things... I do on the other hand try to get him to exercise more but he hates most activities and works a lot (at a desk in front of a computer 6 days a week  )... so we have a different dynamics going on here...

@Beowolf

I really respect what you say

I am learning slowly but surely... 8)

I have a similar problem with husband not being on board with healthy eating and exercise. He doesn't so much buy treats for me, as buy delicious snacks to go with his Friday and Saturday night drinks, and sometimes I find those hard to resist, especially when it's nice savoury stuff (I'm not a big fan of sweets though).

For me the only possible thing to do is to just tell him that I don't want chocolates etc and to just not buy them (lucky for him I think Valentine's day is a bunch of arse, so he's always been off the hook on that particular hallmark holiday) - though he generally buys me some nice ones once a year on my birthday, and I just make sure I share with him. But most of the time I make sure I tell him in advance of an occasion to not buy me anything like that as I don't want it.

On a day to day basis, I've dealt with it buy just using willpower and sticking to my guns about my food choices and essentially demonstrating to him that this is my lifestyle now, not just a fad, and I'm sticking with it, and that his opinion on my body being ok as it is really isn't relevant, only my opinion counts (he's English, I'll say no more).

I'm quite lucky. My man is as anal about food as I am and is there to stop me when I'm about to fall into temptation. It's my family that's the problem. We've had quite a few events and have a couple more coming up. Without fail I'll get hassled and told to "put more meat on them bones and eat like a proper Maori." Luckily my Dad is where I get my vanity from and he'll encourage me to ignore them (and tell them in the nicest way possible that they need to get off their fat arses).

Brunch with the family this weekend (which will include scones, croissants and donuts). *sigh*

I saw the name of this thread and had to comment...my hubby does exactly the same thing. It's night time usually, if I ever feel the urge to snack on the junk he brings home I have a big glass of water or protein shake/bar and brush my teeth - done for the evening. Being summer though it is difficult when icecream is in the house....

@ Vampire chick - yum!! Crossiants - with cream cheese and jam....lol

I'll admit, there's a small chance I'll give in this one time :shifty:

Um... my 2c worth: dealing with treats is a learned skill, it sure as hell doesn't come naturally.

But, it's about putting your physique goal first, for your own sake. Yep, it's hard as anything the first time, but the second time it's easier. Recite to yourself: Bikini body, or muffin top :)

I'm lucky that my wife agrees with my nutrition choices (the downside is that she's always telling me 'i told you so' )

You could also just say Thanks, sweetheart, but next time, could you save the money to put towards some new gym gear ?
