That is not the same with your motto

Saying you will "try" is just giving yourself the option of failing.

:) Like most of us.... if you look hard enough the power and answers are all within reach... sometimes even within ourselves.... the only thing is it is hard to tap into them...

It is insanely hard... I am struggling mentally with sorting out my diet too... currently reading about what works best and talking with other people who have done it to get tips.

It is a great thing that you have decided to try... now decide to do it and stick with it... the results will blow your mind... :) Good Luck.

As Mike said.

Work out your BMR: http://www.bmi-calculator.net/bmr-calculator/

Workout your total daily calorie needs using the Harris Benedict Formula: http://www.bmi-calculator.net/bmr-calculator/harris-benedict-equation/

Then try subtracting 500 calories (for instance) per day from your daily need.

less cals per day 200-500cals less than ur matience level

u can either do more cardio, on ur current diet.

or

drop ur cals (200-500per day) and continue ur same weights routine.

maybe add some HIIT

hold on. how can you say this to him? you dont even know what hes eating for all you know he might be only consuming 500-1000cal per day. people can still be fat and out of shape when they eat hardly anything.

its about choosing the correct foods and eating them at the correct times. its not just about calories, calories and calories. the guy could eat nothing all day the have a big mac combo at 8pm and go to sleep, thats not many calories for a whole day but thats not gona get him abs or help him to lose weight. (and yes there are people out there like this.)

mate this is 1 of 100 newb diet threads thats been posted in the last month. stop being so hopeless and lazy and look through the other diet threads on this site, then once you have an idea how bout proposing something you think would be good then we can actually help you properly

I guess you raise a good point......

I'll stand by my answer though, although it's only relevant if your eating habits are good.

LOL. mate good eating habits are the whole point! im pretty sure if someone had what i would consider good eating habits they wouldnt have a fat guts like this guy and be asking for a diet or even advice to the extent he is. i think if your going to give advice to not give half advice which can be interpretted totally the wrong way.

...take a chill pill brother ;) All that Rapper music's given you anger!

The advice was given in the right spirit! In hindsight without obtain a good background on the patient first which of course is key but the advice did state that he should calculate his daily calorific needs first..... This would imply that he's getting the calories he needs before any reductions are made.

how did i know the thread was even a question? it says "diet for abs"... it could be a diet written by a world renouned dietician to attaining abs for all i knew b4 i clicked it.

ok mr sensitive, go find ur bmi and eat 500 less calories than what u are currently eating and not get anywhere.

no one needs to calm down... people need to wake the f*ck up lol. im deeply sorry if me telling you the truth and telling the other guys there advice was incomplete offended you, obviously u having a smile on ur face is more important than u knowing facts.

 Agree, Tom says it how it is! Would you listen to someone who has competed in BBing and is big/strong (not blowing wind up your arse bro) or some one who says things from formulas etc? My advice would be listen to Tom unless you want to get nowhere fast... just saying

I think both a lowering of calories and choosing the right foods.

Going so low with cals is only a temp solution, and the weight gain comes back when you loosen up, and you cant get gains at low cals.

Good foods?

-High protien of course, being that through digestion it burns a good amount of cals and it maintains that precious muscle mass. Eat it with ALL your meals.

-Low GI carbs and carbs timed well, concentrated mainly after a workout, and after waking. Or you could go as far to trial periods of fasting.

I think most would agree that controlling the carbs prevents them being stored as fat. Timing them also stops the source of energy storing.

-Scheduling re feed or higher carb days. As you drop carbs so does leptin (fat burning hormone) using the refeed day lengthens the effectiveness of a low carb strategy

Formulas can be useful for a rough estimate, emphasis on rough. I'd suggest you starting tracking what you're eating, if not calories, then try and stick with the same foods every day(boring option) Try and maintain your weight for 1-2 weeks, whatever you've eaten in those 1-2 weeks to maintain your weight is your maintenance level, eat less than that to lose weight. Simple.

ok mr sensitive, go find ur bmi and eat 500 less calories than what u are currently eating and not get anywhere.

You mean BMR, and are you suggesting eating less doesn't result in weight loss... :-s Eating extremely little is never a good idea, but eating slightly less than your body requires to maintain it's weight is exactly how to lose weight.

Well, if you found your BMI and ate 500 less than that, you'd be eating negative roughly 470 calories haha. JUST SAYIN'

Fucking calorie counting is as stupid as bodyfat %. Eat less to reduce calories its not rocket science.

What about hormonal control? insulin etc

Vits and minerals

If I eat 2250 (500 less than maint) cals of fructose, sucrose its gonna spike insulin and leave me with sweet fk all nutrients, making my body less that optimal for fat burning in the future and continuing to bring my base metabolism down due to the calorie restriction

I agree for the most part. The problem is many people don't really have a clue how much or of what they're consuming. Tell them to eat less and they eat 1 less muesli bar a day, not going to make much of a difference. Or they decrease their intake way too much and crash and burn.

f I eat 2250 (500 less than maint) cals of fructose, sucrose

I hate when people use extreme examples, it doesn't prove shit, no one's going to just eat sugar. A balanced diet is always necessary.

Yeah this is true, sorry cuz.

I do agree that balance is important but I think focusing on calorie intake is a way to begin that yoyo styled cycle of weight loss. If you eat a shit ton of anything it will store some fat for sure, but strategies to reduce that fat storing are very important in the long term.

Calorie counting (admittedly in the reasonably inactive):

Real food:

Apparently Jack LaLanne only ate two meals a day, I haven't been able to track it down, but it sounds like it cant of been excessive calories.
