Hey all, Im new to Wellington , I live in Upper Hutt and work nights , does any one know of any bjj/mma gyms in Upper Hutt? I am aware of ground control in Porirua and GSW in Lower Hutt, if you do know any that arent listed on the net , please post back. I have had a few muay thai fights and thought Id try my hand at some thing new....cheers

GSW have closed there Lower Hutt operation and they have moved that to their new premises above the "The House". Also The Combat Room in Courtenay Place, plus VUW Muay Thai one of their top instructors trains at The House but I think there is a waiting list to get in. They are in College street they have quite a few fights a year every 2 months, MMA, Muay Thai.

He is a GSW purple belt and the best MMA coach in NZ. He used run a MMA school out of the cage in Porirua, I think it's moved now to the new GSW site now. http://www.mixedmartialarts.co.nz.

He is hands down one of the most experienced trainers you will find and a top guy as well.

I did a session of BJJ at GSW on Taranaki St, bit out of the way for ya I guess but it was a really good place. Great guys, and the tutor is really easy to learn off and knows his stuf.

Only reason I didn't carry on with it is the extra expense is probably too much for the amount of times I can get along to it on top of Rugby + gym work.

Suggest giving them a look if you can make the journey :nod:

Agreed with Drizzt. GSW is the way forward if you want to train in BJJ. Again if you want to train MMA, they have sessions at GSW on Saturday mornings and sometime in midweek as "Lockdown" I think.
