Do chinups with a towel and pinch grip 2 20k plates together and hold them for as long as you can... strengthens your grip something crazy.

I have a shit grip now from tearing my bicep but I used to do lots of this stuff and my grip was good. My little brother used to do deadlifts with a fat bar and his grip was crazy. He can do chin ups on the hang of a doorwell and he's 105 kilos.. I find grip strength comes up quick!

Straps have their place. I use them for all of my lat training. Your grip will fail before your lats.

Yeah, I'm not risking my grip just to miss out on one of the main muscle groups

Good call. You can build your grip up with deadlifting and shrugs. A blanket "no straps" rule makes no sense. I use straps for everything and I have no grip issues with my deadlift.

I quit using straps and have no issues finishing my back workout.

Try training your lats with straps. Unless you are unique you will be able to use more weight and get more reps. That has to be a good thing.

I see the use of straps has its place on the heaviest sets in a back workout. However what gets me is those muppets that use them on the bar 40, 60kg cos you "feel the contraction". How about training your grip to be stronger than your lats so that you dont have to? I would say anyone looking to do strongman even pling should keep the straps for the bedroom.

I can hold 80 easy. But 100 + is hard with an over hand grip. (for my cherio fingers anyway

If chaos then is happy with his back development then more power to him but the best backs in the world are trained with straps (not every set mind you)

I would not classify myself as a person who is concerned with my back development.

TT knows where I'm coming from and I stated it several posts up.....if the guy wants to "bodybuild" then use the straps, but if he wants to powerlift or strongman, ditch those things cause it doesn't matter how developed your back is if you can't hold it and carry it.

I understand where you're coming from, but since Bodybuilding is my main focus, that's what I'll stick to.

Not entirely convinced about this. My bench started to improve as my upper back improved. This was at the same time as I learned to train my back properly including using straps. Using straps on back movements doesn't compromise your grip. As I said, I can pull 320+ from the floor and my grip is fine.

I guess once you build a good grip, then using straps would be wise to a point for back development and most definitely strength! But if you are trying to be specific (deads, hercules hold) then you wouldn't use straps

I think that's a good point Pete. How is using straps on lat pulldowns or even bent over rows going to help your grip anyway? A blanklet no straps rule is silly.

We've both been guilty of making general statements, I do it all the time

I've seen some dudes so stubbornly anti-straps that they'll row staggered grip!

No shit your grip is fine, that's huge pull. I'd be willing to bet you spend alot of time DLing without straps.

Honestly I have no issues with grip failures in my back workout and I ditched straps years ago.
