Any BBers with a Bad Back?

Recommended Posts

I'm starting up again after 3 years of laziness and have had some problems with my back leading up to starting again. I have been to the chiro but have been having sharp pains in my back still when training. Anyone out there got a bad back but managing it and still getting good results?

:)

Had one for years. Been to physio (useless) chiro (nearly useless) and a osteo (this guy works).

I've gotta watch it on squats and deads, but just keep good form and don't go too heavy. Once you get very heavy form turns to shit and thats when you aggrevate it. For me leg press is ok and have been doing fine on it as long as I don't deep where my tail bone lifts.

Plan on getting some expert advice on form from Eastside once comps are finished. Apparently they have bb'ers in there now.

Know your limitations, don't go too heavy on those you know will aggrevate it, and rest it up if you do aggrevate it.

I broke my back in 6 places just over 10 years ago.....

For me weight training is the thing that helps the most - if I don't train for a while my back goes down hill rapidly!! After the injury, in between ops on my ankle (I bust that at the same time), I was back in the gym within 3 month and this help my recovery no end.

Similar to oldfella, I've learnt my limitations. I squat around 100kg currently but really watch my form - when I can though and more often (sorry to the purists) I use the hack squat and leg press where I'm shifting 300+kg. I just find it irritates me less.

Also, I always wear a belt doing heavy back/leg exercises. Personally I prefer the 'material' type with velcro fastener, as apposed to the old school leather ones, as I can get them tighter.

Bro,

That is quite an effort how on earth did that happen?

Skydiving! Jumping in the desert in the US, limited high references and ground rush....thunk!!!! Hit the ground at 30mph.

Holy Shit thats an impressive thing to survive

lol...well here's a funny story for you. If ever there was justification for being a BBer this is it - after the accident I was told that I was a very luck guy and that there was no doubt that it was my 'physical' condition that had prevented 'serious' injury!

Another ER doc insisted he put me out while he relocated my ankle cos quote 'I don't want to be on the receiving end of that good one.....'
