Dodgy Achilles

For some reason my right achilles has been playing up. When I get up in the morning I can't easily power off the ball of my foot, tend to just lift it up and down when walking until it frees up.

With morning walks now the go for pre comp BF loss, it's handicapping me a bit.

Doing calf exercises is no problem, probably due to the fact that it's had all day to warm up. Always gets a good stretch on standing raises.

Have swapped my new gym shoes back to my old trusties but still get it.

Anyone got any ideas on what I can do to bring it right (apart from hardening up of course)? Appreciate any help.

Unless you're prone to wearing stilettos  - go and see a massage therapist. I've had a stuffed archilles for years, at that time my massage therapist would be there weekly to get it sorted. Unfortunately, she decided to bugger off to England! Strap it for now, and see how you go. Then get your arse to the gym in the mornings and use the cross-trainer and bike - there's always a way around injuries. Oh, and stop being soft! :pfft:

Where exactly is the pain? Usually it is right at the bottom of the achilles where it joins the heel. It could be bursitis which is inflammation of the bursa sack.

Treatment involves taking the strain off the bursa by wearing shoes with high heels, taking anti inflammatories such as voltaren and icing the bursa.

You can swap walks for stationary bike to rest the achilles and still burn some fat.

Basically you need to take he strain off it till the inflammation reduces.

When it has recovered start off with some high rep,low weight calf raises.

Since Nov I've been suffering with this crazy pain in the middle of my heel. Been seeing a sports physio for it. What she found was that my gastroc (at the inner part of my calf) was really tight as well as the flexor digitorom.

There isn't much between the heel and the achilles, just a bursa pad. If that is bruised, then you just have to wait till it heals up. In the end, I had to get my heel strapped weekly just to take the pressure off.

Go see a sports physio, they're worth it. They will deep tissue the tight areas in your calves and/maybe strap up your feet. Also, where abouts are you? If you're in Welly, I can suggest my physio.

Hope it helps. Seeing as I am at my last appt and ACC won't give me any more I have to do the massage myself, which isn't too bad, painful but not too bad. A combo of all of the above and the pain hasn't been too bad in a couple of days, so i'd guess it was healing up.
