weights + preseason training

The rugby season has started and I dont have the time or energy to keep up a regular BB training schedule so have broken it down from 4 days with about 6 excercises per day (plus rest days) including isolation to 3 days with less excercises and more compound lifts. Trying to bulk but its a bit hard with the extra rugby training.

also what are peoples thoughts regarding clean and jerks and clean and press for bulking?

day 1 dead lift

upright rows +b

pullups

day 2 squats

hamstring curls

lunges

front squats

day 3 lateral side raises

clean and jerk or clean and press

Bench incline

bench press

I take my rugby more seriously but have always been interested in bodybuilding in the offseason. I'm playing seniors now and at 6'2" and 88-90kg i'm a bit light as a flanker. trying to find the best way of putting on weight at the same time as playing/training or at least to avoid losing any.

Ok. im gonna shoot straight with you. If you are just playing club rugby and there is no way you are at all involved with provincial rugby then i would hesitantly say ok, do bb type training offseason.

However if you are involved in provicial rugby even on a grass roots level or have aspirations to play provicial rygby and know you have talent to make it then steer away from bb training now. If you are trying to bulk and build strength in the offseason and hoping that bb type training is going to help then you are sadly mistaken and i'm happy to take anyone on about this.

There are many ways to go about strenght and mass in offseason for rugby without losing speed, agility and flexibility. When you do bodybuilding you tend to sacrifice one or all of those aspects. I am happy to help and guide you in the direction you need to go if you training for rugby in the offseason and if you want to be serious about it. PM me if you are interested other wise i wish you well.
