The Floor Press

Dr Squat

Recommended Posts

I did them on Friday night and one of the boys suggested that I pull my shoulder blades together. I was laying there "like a sack of spuds" he said. This really helped and as I got heavier the bar was close to hitting my chest.

LMAO! Yeah its not an elegant lift & probably why its not used in the ponsy gyms like mine. Must try & slip it in out the back somewhere as its a long time since I have done them. Can you do them under the Smith Machine? Would you be able to better isolate chest by using the wider grip which you may not achieve using a free BB because of the restricted ROM?

The floor press is really a tricep movement and I think best performed with free weight. I think you guys have a power rack bro? Lay down and get to work.

hey Doc without the use of a power rack do you happen to know of a way to ghetto one up? I'm wondering if stacks of plates or boxes or something would work?

I was thinking about this today. Just lay on the floor and get your TP (who you know and trust) to deadlift and pass you the bar? Where there is a will, there is a way.

Your idea is fine also but be careful of the bar rolling.

Don't really have a proper TP- ties in with your other thread haha

I was a bit worried about the bar shifting... Will have a go anyway and work something out.

I set up two adjustable benches spread apart, jus enough so as the notch at each end just sat outside the bench.

Worked well but i still need something to put on top of the benches as it was a lil to low, and cranking that thing up from standstill so low was a workout itself.

And my post workout meal was kfc and corn and watermelon

Was a ghettotastic session

Another Floor Press convert here.

Tried them today but like others had to ghetto-ise. My pull-ups / dips tower has some kind of a brace on either side for putting feet on it or some shit. The braces were useful for putting the bar on, only thing is, I didn't have enough space for a full bar so had to use an EZ-Bar (I am not pressing much weight eh).

Still, got it going and I felt alotta new business in the tris. :smoke:

On a serious note, yeah man way more activation in the tris than a CGBP for me, and at the bottom, or the sticking point i get quite a bit of chest in there, loving doing them now.
