Warming up

Squats and deadlift days I start with a some quick lunges around the basketball court to get a little blood flowing then into the agile 8. Find it works wonders getting the hips and glutes nice and warm. Usually struggle a little bit with tightness on those days.

Bench and jerk days I will do a few sets of shoulder dislocates with the old wooden stick we've got, a few behind the head presses with the stick and some of those around the world thinigies. Slowly moving my hands closer together every 3 reps to get a further stretch on 3. Some times do the old Y fly on the swiss ball for bench days to really stretch out the pec and also I will add in some rotator cuff work.

I always warm up my rotator cuff muscles before any upper body work and my elbows. Before I legs I will just do some free weight squats and a very little bit of stretching.

I tend to stretch more between sets than prior to doing them. Something I once read about the golgi tendon reflex and how too much stretching lessens it and so you don't have the same explosiveness through your movements..

My right shoulder was very insistent with its aching so I started doing broomsticks (I even bought the 'stick' part of a broomstick from Mitre10, heh) and scapula wall slides before each workout - upper or lower, and now it's all in the clear.

I do a set of my main exercise at 30% then a set at 60% of whatever weight the work set is at.

I like the idea of doing some bodyweight lunges for the hips. :>

I never warmpup before a workout but each exercise I have warmup sets like anyone else I suppose.

My warmups are 1 or 2 sets, 1st set is usually 20-30 reps for getting movement and motion sorted. Then 2nd warmup has some weight on it to get muscle warmed up.

No stretching

Wow, I actually think my 11 month old girl is more eloquent than that! :)
