Squat Depth

I like Branch, and what he does works for him but he is the poster boy for how not to train

Really? :? His training is brutal and he generally uses full range of motion.

not what i have seen of his training. his videos show a lot of what looks like 1/2 reps, and he often bounces.

But i think his squats show good form.

When I refer to full ROM, I mean he goes very deep. Shoulder press for example. Not locking out is deliberate for obvious reasons.

We could list his injuries and list Toney Freeman's injuries and then compare training styles

Indeed his ROM in generally full but it can get loose as hell

Toney who? lol. Where did he get at the Olympia? BW's physique is a product of his brutal training style.

Haha only thing that holds Toney back is his height. Imagine at Toney's height, using such ballistic movements.

Only guys like Branch and Ronnie can lift the way they do, moving a weight that is fucking heavy for reps that most of use do when training "light"

There's a guy called Mark Anderson who is shorter than you. He's a bit heavier mind you. He trains in a pretty brutal and powerful style.

I'm not arguing the toss saying it doesn't work, because it does for a smaller group of the population, by holy crap does your body end up resenting the f*ck out of it

you can train however you like if your short, you only move the weight about 3" anyway :pfft: and it doesnt matter because its easy to fill out a 5' something frame.

It's easy to make excuses for why your smaller and weaker than someone 5' something when you're 6' something :pfft:

f*ck excuses, use it as motivation! Nothing like seeing someone half your size out lifting you to make you push harder.

Anyway- squat depth.

A tip I got from Fry and I note Val Adams does the same thing:

Front squats, use your double loop straps and wrap around the middle of the bar. Then hook your thumbs through and hold the bar this way.

Another way to use straps with front squats is as an aid to progress to a full clean grip. You wrap the straps around the bar where your grip would be and hold the ends of the strap as close as you can to the bar. Eventually your forearms flexibility will improve allowing you to use the clean grip for front squats. I prefer this grip to the "genie" type grip as it feels more solid to me.

Touche, well almost..........

work = Force x Distance,

if your 6'1 and one rep down and up on the squat is 6 feet and you did 10 reps that would be 60 feet. Now take the weight lifted and times it by the distance, for example if you squatted 300 lbs: 300 lbs X 60 ft = 18,000 ft/lbs.

if your 5'3 just for example and your one rep down and up distance is 5ft and you squatted 350lbs x10 then : 350 lbs x 50 ft = 17,500 ft/lbs

Thats actually less work than the tall guy squating 50lbs less.

Yet the little guy and those in the gym percieve hes out lifting the tall guy.

A common misconception.

See, like i said - Misconception. :pfft:

I could squat over 200kgx4, but my squat would only be 6" deep, doesnt mean im outlifting you squating 160x4 to parallel though.

Would i outlift someone by squatting 160kg only to parallel when they are going 140kg A2G?

oh man, now we are approaching the PL vs BB arena. Danger Danger!

If we are squatting to the same depth on every rep and I'm doing 180 for 5 and you do 180 for 4, I have out lifted you regardless of height
