Obviously you are not working out or not working out hard enough!

Come night time struggling to stay awake past 10 (do get up at 5)

Hit the weights harder

Thats bullshit. I used to work out like three times a day to exhaust myself so I would just fall straight asleep. Then my doctor told me to stop doing that. My body is tired its my brain that wont shut up

:o

So what has your Doc done for you then??

personally (take in to account my opinion is "bullshit" ) I would rather go to sleep exhausted than load up on pills to "knock myself out"

But as others have said to need to clear your mind (yeah i know easier said than done)

-No TV or reading in bed

- try writing lists of things you need to do tomorrow

- Become a Nun if its relationship probs on mind

- farm out the kids/husband for a few days weeks/ever

- Get rid of all your wordly goods - mother Theresa slept well

lololololololol Grover! Agree with ya bro, no bright lights, no distractions- late night texting can screw up your training and sleeping patterns

Make sure your room is like a bat cave (read Charles Poliquin's articles on sleep).

I take ornithine, arginine, l-histidine, l-trytophan, vitamin A- as a mixture, helps with sleep a lot and agree with Chemo, have some fats before bed, will stop ya from waking up hungry.

Just reading this again and I thought that the vicious cycle you talk about could be Adrenal Dysfunction.

Take a look and see if any symptoms looks familiar.

Im pretty sure I may of suffered with this during my last year of study, induced by my compulsive over active mind , overnighters, coffee, Chinese food court and diet coke.

I felt like shit every time I woke up, I had to go straight to the jug and get onto the coffee. Only way I could really beat it is willpower, and consciously monitoring what I was doing all the time.

Apparently quite the problem in the states

OMG Chemo thats exactly it!! i have like almost all those symptoms!! I just had a hair analogy test done that my doctor had to send to the states and it said I was low in iron and low in sodium and potassium which indicates adrenal disfunction!!! Ahhh crap that the only way to fix it is like taking care of yourself.... thats so hard...

when I lift heavy I find it is harder to sleep(I workout in the evenings) something to do with your CNS getting burnt out or something.

I find the same, particularly after squats (and worse when you've used a pre-workout supp!).

Its hard but worth it, since when was anything healthy or fitness related easy  . You don't want it turn into chronic adrenal dysfunction.

As soon as you get up go for water not coffee, if you feel like a V..no ..water instead.

Kinda helped avoiding anything sweet, just to get rid of the sweet tooth.

I would recommend eating red meat, but theres a mad scare about it at the moment, over increased breast cancer and stroke, up to you on that one O__O

What is not widely known, is that excessive caffeine intake raises cortisol ... :(

Thanks.

Historical personalized origins:

perfectionism

lols.

Training in general is stressful on the adrenals thats the point of it, so it stimulates the response to grow and adapt after, but as long as you put in the R+R then thats fine just gotta try and learn to listen to your body as to when you need to rest.

I can understand about getting in a bad pattern though.

Melatonin works well. It is prescription only in this over regulated country so ask your GP.

I didn't notice any difference on 5-HTP.

Also don't have any caffeine later than mid afternoon as it can have a half life up to 6 hours which will affect your sleep.
