NewZealand

Recommended Posts

Some one once told if I can't get to sleep (you know, when your brain wont shut up) just take a couple of asprins. So I tried it one night and it worked. I don't know if it was just a placebo effect but it has worked several times now.

maybe look at why you cant sleep instead

trying reading a book

or just keep your bedroom for sleep and the obvious and dont work in there or watch tv

may be somthing in your diet too?? or stress??

Yeh ultimately the is the solution but at the moment its kinda like a vicious cycle ya know... i cant sleep so im tired at work so i drink V and eat crap to give me energy but then the V keeps me up and then im just stressed and anxious all the time atm so if i can at least get a good nights sleep i can have the energy to work on the other areas in my life that need fixing and then BAM!! itl all work out in the end.....

Gutted about GABA. I had some seized last year, I had no idea it was not allowed. Same with melatonin. I think most people would benefit from the stuff if it were OTC, but then im sure someone will OD on it like DMAA

Fats at night are good, i find it prevents me from waking up hungry.

Zma, almonds, cottage cheese.

"2 roofies"

LOL

Obviously you are not working out or not working out hard enough!

Come night time struggling to stay awake past 10 (do get up at 5)

Hit the weights harder

Thats bullshit. I used to work out like three times a day to exhaust myself so I would just fall straight asleep. Then my doctor told me to stop doing that. My body is tired its my brain that wont shut up

:o

So what has your Doc done for you then??

personally (take in to account my opinion is "bullshit" ) I would rather go to sleep exhausted than load up on pills to "knock myself out"

But as others have said to need to clear your mind (yeah i know easier said than done)

-No TV or reading in bed

- try writing lists of things you need to do tomorrow

- Become a Nun if its relationship probs on mind

- farm out the kids/husband for a few days weeks/ever

- Get rid of all your wordly goods - mother Theresa slept well

Just reading this again and I thought that the vicious cycle you talk about could be Adrenal Dysfunction.

Take a look and see if any symptoms looks familiar.

Im pretty sure I may of suffered with this during my last year of study, induced by my compulsive over active mind , overnighters, coffee, Chinese food court and diet coke.

I felt like shit every time I woke up, I had to go straight to the jug and get onto the coffee. Only way I could really beat it is willpower, and consciously monitoring what I was doing all the time.

Apparently quite the problem in the states

There are Unisom Sleep gels from the chemistwith diphenydramine hydrochloride in. They are behind the counter but legal. The chemist will say they be used in moderation but they work well.

Melatonin is good but is prescription only and my doctor has no problem prescribing it. I had to explain what it was though as he had never heard of it.

And sleeping pills can be useful occasionally to get out of that cycle of worry that you wont get any sleep.

Also it's usually things on the mind that keep you awake. Say to yourself that the day has ended and nothing can change what has been done. Tomorrow is another day to get things right. Write down the things you need to do the next day on paper and they are off your mind.
