Hiya,

Well, after 2 years off the gym for a plethora of injuries, a pregnancy and an emergency c-section, I'm back at the gym:)

2 and a bit years ago (Aug '08) I played with the idea of competing but I put my knee out of action after dislocating 10 years prior so that went out the window. To be very honest, I can be an unbelievably lazy sod and I used the knee injury as an excuse to not train.

In May '09 I went to CCDHB with excruciating eye pain and they gave me a botched lumbar puncture  . After that is was painful to walk, sit, sleep let alone train. In Aug '09 I was pregnant lol and in April '10 I had my little girl by emergency c-section.

So, now that all that is said and done, in Dec '10 I decided that I wanted to compete :D I just have a lot of fat to shift and muscles to strengthen. With a ridiculously poor financial sitch it's kinda hard buying meats and stuff (but I'm mangaing) and I am going to invest in some protein powder this weekend. I'm wary about what powders I can consume because I am still breastfeeding my DD. I was going to go with NFS Bio Whey because it's got natural sweeteners but if anyone has any other suggestions I'm all ears :) My stats currently are:

Weight: 88.6 kg

Height: 160cm

Caliper measurements:

BF - 37.8%

Biceps - 14mm

Triceps - 29mm

Subscapular - 34mm

Iliac crest - 27mm

Other measurements:

Biceps - 39cm

Chest - 111cm

Waist - 104cm

Hip - 115cm

Quad - 53cm

Calf - 41cm

As you can see I have my work cut out for me :) I will post my training stats in a workout journal :).

Thanks

Tash :)

Thanks guys :) This weekend I'm going grocery shopping. I know its a newbie question but can you suggest good foods to buy? I'm thinking lean meats & veggies. I really dislike stuff in cans (coz then there's way too much sodium involved).

Gym - check

Program - check

Lotsa water - check

Groceries - this weekend.

To be honest, for once I am amped to be burning the fat :D Being on here with the support makes it heaps easier too :D

Welcome - and well done on getting back to the gym

With all those things checked, you're well on the way.

Best advice - shop the edges of the supermarket, stay clear of the aisles. That means loads a fresh fruit and vegies, fresh lean meat and chicken, fish if you can get it, and fresh eggs/ milk. Quite apart from the concerns you have about giving your daughter a good start, the preservatives/ additives/ flavours/ thickeners/ emulsifiers and random stuff in canned goods will get in the way of your goals.

Consider Moore Wilsons, or the Mad Butcher for meat/fish/ chicken once you know which cuts are good... they can be cheaper and folks have been known to post tip-offs to specials on here.

For Whey, you might consider EatMe, if it's not sweet enough a lot of female competitors I know will add Splenda.

You are off to a good start and if you want to reduce the fat in your meat I would highly recomend buying a George Forman grill and they are great for cooking any type of meat expect for fish what I have done in the past which can be mission trying to get off and cleaning the bits of fish on the grill best of all you can cook frozen meats on your grill.Which saves lots of time waiting for your meat to defrost over they are good value for money.Plus I will give you a good tip for cleaning your grill which when you finsh cooking what ever meat that cook on your grill.Uplug the grill take two paper towels fold them in half and wet them and place them on the grill and close the lid and let your grill steam clean for half a hour once that's done.Take a dry paper and wiped the grill surface.
