Bodybuilding redefined/Modern day BBing

Rookie

Recommended Posts

I remember another recent thread about old school BBers. This will be about your favourite modern day BBers, and what you think BBing is about.

Some people think being small and having abs is BBing (What I first thought before being told the truth) and others says it is being about being as freaky as possible (my current opinion). A wise former top NZ BBer told me how it is and said you train to get big mate, thats how it should be

What do you think BBing is about/should be and why?

Here a few of my favourite BBers:

Repping the short fullas, frames packed with muscle! Pure freaks of nature!

I'm lost on hide i don't see why he sits inside the top 10

He packs more mass than guys like Priest (would probably beat English on shape) so he looks wider than some of the big guys. I like Hide's shape, probably not top 10 i guess but still good and can sneak in if someone's off (someone's always off)

he looked better then victor and kai at the last olympia

but yea not to much of a fan of the pro scene anymore as its to much chemical warfare now and the guys are loosing there own special look they all look the same now the only difference been who comes in condition or not check out the top 10 from the 80s or 90s and everyone had there own characteristics and unique look

Paul dillet. Lolol

Teach him how to pose first :pfft: Before Hide went pro, he competed at around 80-82kgs on stage (Thats what I heard). He trained at the gym I`m currently at, during his amatuer years. The owner said he was a freak before the gear. A pity not many other BBers here are willing to take it to the "next level"

I still think the Classic V taper is the bodybuilding at its finest!Dorian yates is the most I can bare.

this is perfect in my opinion

Im all for getting freaky big but at the cost of aesthetics no thanks. The Bloated Gut look is just unbearable to watch and frankly has made the sport ridiculous.

Frank Mcgrath is currently my fav

Can you post an example pic of what you're talking about (not disagreeing, just have no idea what you mean)?

I like the look of the old school bodybuilders, I suppose in the eyes of the average gym goer the look of the guys in the 60s 70s seems a lot more attainable than the top pros today. In saying that everyone loves a freak  Hide's definetley one of my fav pros on the scene atm

Yeah I get what you mean about the GH gut etc. McGrath is a machine!! I saw some pictures of Lee Haney and Rich Gaspari training together back in the day: Gaspari was freaky in the fact he had awesome conditioning- his vascularity/dryness was insane

As much as we like freaks, its guys like Ronnie and Jay who did well, not guys like Quincy Taylor or Marcus Haley, Ruhl included

Gotta say if I had to pick one flavour-of-the-month, I'd have to go with Branch Warren.

 Agree completely, Branch is awesome: His training intensity and his hunger/work ethic is something to strive towards. His grainy look is mean too, freaky/vascular is where its at!

Yup, exactly. And best of all, he's a short-arse too, same height as me. Now if I could just match the rest of his dimensions

Haha that`s why all my fav BBers are around 5ft4-5ft7  He trains insanely heavy even leading up to comps. Like the "lightweight muthafucka ahhhhhhhhh" attacks the iron!
