Reverse Hyper Extension

Dr Squat

Recommended Posts

The reverse hyper extension, like the glute ham raise is an under utilised machine. For the same reason, most gyms don't have one.

The reverse hyperextension machine is great for the development of the glutes, hamstrings, lower and middle back. I also recommend it those suffering from lower back soreness and tightness.

I am interested to know if you have used one and what your thoughts are. Like the GHR, it is not an easy exercise.

Used them, is good. If there is one in a gym, most people don't seem to know what it is. Have had people come up to me and ask about it, what does that work, what in fact is it etc.

Though I will say, they're not designed for smaller people :P And I'm sure having your package squished is a put off for guys :pfft:

LOL - maybe they were designed by a woman, or an enhanced athlete with a little testicular atrophy! :pfft:

Louie Simmons has some good articles on the RH (and the GHR) on the Westside Barbell site, as does the EliteFTS guys.

Not sure they're worth the coin. There are substitute exes that have the same benefits if performed right. I mean sure it's nice if your gym has one, but a truly strong person doesn't need bells and whistles  Sorry Louie, I've gone all minimalist :pfft:

You been doing ghetto RH's Rose?! We have to atm as we don't have a RH (tho we have a GHR), in fact the nearest RH is in Wellington at PH I believe?

ESB & PH may be the only gyms I know that have one - Getstrength may have one as well?

Yes, have ghettoed RH's, but also find other exes can be just as good.

Don't meant to sound like a twat, however with ghetto GHR's, I found when I jumped on a proper GHR bench they were easy. More than one way to skin a cat?

PowerHouse is the only gym I know of in Wellington that has a RH, but I haven't been to any of the major shiny lands to know. It's probably like the squat racks at Les Mills, tucked up somewhere on the top floor, in a corner, buried in cobwebs, and no one wants to use it because they'll have to walk down 10 flights of stairs afterwards, heh! :o

Sorry for bringing up old posts but was go ogling reverse hypers in NZ and this old thread came up. Anyone know where I can get a decent but not overly expensive reverse hyper ?

Ghetto is your best bet. I  built a simple thing for my rack. Saved 900$ lol

I actually don't mind old posts being resurrected. It's kind of cool to see old members I'd forgotten about.
