Gyms in HB

Recommended Posts

I'll be up in my old stomping grounds in a couple of weeks time, and was looking for some recomendations on a gym to use while there.

Considerations:

Unfortunately price has to be a major factor for me. I can't afford $25 per hit (a la Les Mis) so would prefer somewhere with a decent 1-2 week concession rate.

Non-shiny preferred, somewhere that I won't be glared at for grunting, puffing and generally shouting at the weights to help them move.

Hastings would be better than Napier, simply because that's where I'll be staying, and I might not have access to a car every day.

Cheers fellas, I'll check those two out once I'm up there.

Geez, haven't been back to Flaxmere for years, grew up there. Certainly didn't have a gym there back in my day, might have to drop in and check it out too :D

LOL - I'm from Flaxmere originally, if I didn't steal your car badges I certainly kicked your letterbox over at some stage! :pfft:  Nickoli & I trained in Flaxmere in about 2007 for 6 months or so - small but okay.

Let me know when you're in town & I'll see if I can catch up for a train?

Mags? In Flaxmere? Dunno what it's like there now, but in my day the only mags were the ones that were stolen from Napier :pfft:

I grew up in Kirkcaldy Cres, behind the village.

LOL - I probably delivered your paper.... or the one you took out of your neighbours letterbox! :pfft:

Maybe even your milk.... you may remember there was never any choclate milk or grapefruit juice left if I was working..... I'd stolen that shit well before the milk run started!

14th - 26th, 3 sleeps to go

Yeah just gym stuff at the mo, main focus lately has been on trying to maintain strength/muscle (what there is of it :pfft: ) while cutting. Definitely keen to come along for a sesh if we can sort the timings out. I shouldn't have too much trouble with babysitters, the family are all dying to see the little ronins.

Went in to Angels yesterday...gotta say I loved the place. Just Like being at home. Well, apart from the music  think I'll take my MP3 next time

Seriously though, if anyone else is ever visiting the Bay, I'd definitely recomend it.

Try across the road at Aspyre as well. Both similar-ish.

Napier:

* Sparta - well equipped large gym, lots of BBers

* Pettigrew Green Arena - smaller more fitness/corporate suited IMHO, good equipment but limited

* Ocean Spa - as above but bonus of heated salt water pools.

* Fierce Fitness - limited but brand new gym gear, functional training stuff, brand new boxing ring, rolling mats & a MMA cage!

* City Fitness - same as any other city fitness. Shiny & new....

* Bay City Gym - unsure? Reasonable gear & less shiny from 2nd hand info

* Magpies Gym - best sports specific / functional gear on East Coast..... private gym tho, let me know if you want to check it out (Im there Thurs 5pm)

Change of plans, will be staying in Hastings today, so back to Aspyre.

Thanks for the reviews though, good to know. Was going to try out Bay City Gym (just cos they were the cheapest for casuals  )

If you're up for "Giant Cambered Bar Box Squats with Chains" tonight you know where to find me! And it's free...... the price you pay will be heavy DOMS and aches & pains! :pfft:
