These sorts of numbers are the mark of strength & endurance both physically & mentally IMO & what I admire more than any freaky 400kg 1 rep squat. Sorry Doc, no offence

Bodybuilders

i think to get to a 1rm squat of 400kg would take just as much mental strength and endurance as what would reps at 200kgs or what have you. both take alot of sweat and tears

Watching neil lauaki coming into genetics and benching 220 raw on any given day. Also seeing Jason gerbrich benching 240 with a 10 second eccentric :pfft:

In regards to the op I would say I have a freaky arch for someone over 100kg. Midote is a freaky bench really short humerus think hes benched 800lb ipf?

Midote benched 749 IPF, always looks like the elbows aren`t locked out though  He`s a T-rex, yeah tiny arm length!

* Derek Pomana deadlifting 365kg at the 2002 Oceanias

* Nick MacNamee doing a standing millitary pressing (fat bar) 110kg x 22 reps at the 2003 NZSM

* Dale Shepherd deadlifting 340kg RAW (no belt/no suit/no straps) at 2010 Bledisbro

* Nick Hansens 360kg deadlift RAW (no suit/no straps) with only a belt from 2009 SM competition in Auckland

* 1991, Training with and watching 20yr old Rodney Tupouniua RAW squat (no suit/no knee wraps and only had a belt) : 60x20, 80x20, 100x20, 120x20, 140x20, 160x20, 180x20, 200x20, 220x20, 240x10...stop and puke and do another 240x10 to finish his 20reps. All reps ATG, powerlifting depth

Amazing - 200 reps. Not so much as a freaky lift but total raw strength. These sorts of numbers are the mark of strength & endurance both physically & mentally IMO & what I admire more than any freaky 400kg 1 rep squat. Sorry Doc, no offence

try his 323kg squat record at a body weight of 101kgs as a junior under 23 year old, freaky enough for you ?

  Wow! That's amazing stamina! It even puts Tom Platz effort to shame. You'll have to excuse my ignorance bit what sort out lifts did Rodney go on to acheive? And what was his bodyweight at the time?

Rodney was born to lift. He was around 5ft 8ish and weighed in around 103-107kg BUT put together with brute natural power. My brother trained with his cousin who was a very strong BB so I got the pleasure of training with them on the odd occassion. I thought I was a strong junior squatter until I experienced this butt serving as I stayed with him upto 180 but I only managed 14 or so but he just carried on, and on and on!! He holds varies NZ powerlifting junior records and I have no doubts had he stayed in the sport, would have made it to the big time like the Millens, Pomanas etc.

yeah no doubt he would have done some big things, totally drug free which was just as amazing. Even though in his time he was a powerlifter he tended to train more like a very strong body builder would. Cathy Millen told him to lift big he needed muscle endurance-hence the high reps with sick weights.

 Woops I only saw a vid of him benching 749lbs, he`s respected over here in terms of strength, but lots of people dislike him coz of his physique. Still mad strength

Moving on...

For the older amongst us, did anyone see Kevin Judson in his Olympic Lifting days? I saw him competing as a powerlifter in the 1990s and he was very impressive. Holds several NZ records in the 82.5 kg class with a 310 squat and also the bench around 200 (no shirt), deadlift about 300.

I know he qualified to lift at the 1990 Comm Games but was injured.

I heard he also went on to do some bodybuilding after his powerlifting career.

Not very tall and built like a farken tank. He was 40 when he broke those NZ records.
