shirtless squat

can you squat shirtless and dry your upper back with your towel/shirt after each set and rechalk the bar?

i squat in a cotton shirt so the bar doesnt slip but its becoming hard to breathe unless i wear a singlet. i know a singlet is probably worse than shirtless so would the above suggested work or does it still not compare to a shirted squat?

ok what im asking is can you squat fine with a bar on your back without wearing a shirt and having to worry about the bar slipping? could i try drying my back(from the sweat) after my sets and chalking the bar? just worried about being able to stay tight/slippage!

If you're sweating that hard that it makes wearing a shirt difficult, your skin is going to be worse for getting some sort of grip - I have enough trouble when I wear sleveless stuff trying to keep the bar from slipping down the shoulders through sweating, I can only imagine how tough it'd be to hold it there without something for the bar to grip on my back/traps

Get a better shirt. If breathing is a concern, wear a looser one like PD suggests.

Is this for a commercial gym? If you do intend to go shirtless, may also pay to ask if it's against the rules and regs. I know that "no shirtless lifting" has been a rule at a couple of gyms I've attended

If it's for a home gym, try it with some moderate weight and see how you go

You can squat shirtless no problem if you set the bar right, but why would you? It ain't that hot in NZ!

A decent thickness shirt minimises that "squat scab" but even then anything over 250kg gives me them. I'd say shirtless anything over 180 might be a problem!
