Can Sport go hand in hand with BB?

Say rugby or leauge, some bodybuilder in southaucks told me a while back I had to give up these sports if I want to do bodybuilding. Is there some ways to loophole certain aspects to still do both in balance or is it just a straight 'no'.

And curious to know if any nzBB's play/ed contact sports.

Its really up to you and what your goals are.

However if you want to be serious and competitive in any sport generally you would focus solely on that as the training disicplines are different.

I have enough difficulty fitting BBing into my work and family life without having a sport to play as well!

Take it from me, its a straight no if you are a pro or contracted player. Its a maybe if you are just a weekend warrior.

Proper bodybuilding takes a huge toll on the body with intense weight training sessions 5+ times a week and carefully regulated cardio, eating and rest schedules.

A carefully planned training schedule that incorporated both your weight training and sport specific training would result in a better conditioned sport body and a good looking physique. But you can't really run around the field for 80 minutes taking big hits from big ploys at 5% BF. So if you are planning on jumping on stage, and you're halfway thru your comp prep diet, I dont think its a great idea to be playing rugby. Although in saying that Jonah Lomu competed in a Wellington Bodybuilding last year then fronted up on field in France the following week!

Alot of bodybuilders come from another sport which introduced them to training. Personally I played alot of rugby and basketball up to senior level before I gave it away for bodybuilding cos there's less chance of injury lol.

Argghh im stuck in the same predicament, rugby or bb.

Soundsgood: Thats why I need to keep bb throughout season because spending 80minutes getting ragdoll'ed by massive polys aint on my list.

I was thinking of taking protein shakes after every game to repair the damaged muscles and only turn up to play the game as my one and only session of cardio - because I was told to much running and I will lose muscle.

Ironman: Why is it a no for contracted players?

If you are a contracted rugby or league player then basically you will be training 2-3 times a day. One of those sessions will be a gym session and the rest made up of fitness and gameplay oriontated stuff. Plus your gym programme will be made up and guided by a strength and conditioning coach that will tell you off if you try and your own thing. Pro players have to obide by their stricked gym and cardio training. If you realy want to get fit do a 3km run twice a week and do 1 speed session too. that will help you get real fit keep you lean and enough to build a mean lean mass machine without getting hit hard on the field. And yes if you are serious about your bb and you play 80min rugby, a protein shake will do the trick. The most important is to first get a isotonic drink in you like powerade to replenish your fluid loss and after a shake will do good great.

Too much running and not enough eating and you will lose muscle. You can do more cardio to keep your fitness up if you like, just make sure you replenish the calories you're burning and you'll be fine.

Whoever told you that is an idiot!

Another question *(told from the same guy) that I shouldnt waste my time on the Benchpress because the tendancy of the stronger side taking more % of the weight creating pecs a little deformed after a while, that I should rather do dumbell presses so I concentrate more on each pec individually but at the same time without the need of a spotter.*

Is this on the money?
