Buying International

You will find that some multis/vits/minerals (I've tried to purchase Optimum Optimen Multi, and Optimum ZMA) won't get shipped. I've heard that Optimen/ZMA don't get through because of the zinc content. Pity, because there's a huge saving to be had there

Damnit! I've been working some things out and PP and creatine can be had in bulk just as cheap locally, so was possibly thinking of ordering some Fish oil, multi, ZMA and Tribulus as I've never tried them before. All Optimum haha. Know of any brands of ZMA that will ship?

Not to my knowledge, but I didn't look very hard, so let me know if you do find any that will ship :)

I think the thing stopping the Optimum one is the serving per cap? Or so I heard... So another brand may very well get through if the serve is ok.

I definitely know what you're saying bro, I've burnt a lot there since I started buying from 'em a few years back.

Lately though I've just been buying the basics in (relative) bulk. Last few orders have been casein, tribulus, BCAAs (Xtend), and Jack3d - stocked up in anticipation of it being banned, in hindsight, this may have been the biggest waste, and probably should've just got the raw ingredient(s) and made my own pre-workout blend.

edit - in my eyes this isn't a waste, but it may be to other people

Nothing too extravagant from me I reckon.

...I'm all for getting value for money etc but I'm just wondering about purchasing protein manufactured in the u.s.

I've thought our nz fonterra whey was top quality ish so you would rather purchase protein closer to home such as eatme, nutrawhey, miada etc or protein blends made from this. Thought the whey manufactured in the u.s wasn't that great so obviously their protein blends won't be as good.

I could be wrong tho cos there are heaps of beasts in the u.s who would have been sipping on nitrotech and musclemilk etc etc...

It is known that NZ has got top quality protein powder but its does always mean that its the definate best. There are some realy big dairy farmers in the US that make protein at half the price fonterra does here.

Another thing is that fonterra does have their finger in the pie so to speak in the US with milk, so any milk or protein you get there has probably at some point been past fonterra. As we all know it may well be cheaper to get protein from the US at the same quality fonterra sells over here. The problem is that we are little old NZ and they charge us silly prices.

so just explain this to me someone,if the gst doesn't add up to 50$ they just don't bother charging you anything?

Yeah but be careful not to use $400 benchmark like some people do as this is completely irrelavent when calculations are made. There is also duty as well as gst on clothing so the calculation is different again..

In the case of supplements imported from the US the calculation for gst is.

Value of goods @ current (or monthly) exchange rate =________

Plus the freight

and you pay 15% of this total.

therefore if they cost $200 US and freight is $20 US and the exchange rate is 0.75($NZ293 @ 15%) the total payable is about $44 and therefore is not collected.

If they cost $250 US with $20 US freight, exchange rate 0.75 (NZ$360 @ 15%) then the total payable is $54 and it is collected.

However keep an eye on the exchange rate.

Hope this helps.

I got them on the 16 Nov… and I am still waiting :( …. Hope its not stuck with customs

I ordered mine on the 22nd November and Im still waiting as well.... normal post

i ordered a few things from bb.com on 4th Nov and i too am still waiting. called up bb.com the other day and the guy gave me the GM (global mail) number as its not an individual tracked item (the GM number is to track a giant bag of mail coming from the states to nz on that single day),called DHL (global forwarding),gave them this number to trace it, and apparently its in customs for inspection and has been since the 18th nov. When asked why so long, she said that its xmas season and theres loads of international shit coming in at this time bla bla ba. so yea,a little pissed off tho. keep us updated if any you have received your order.

Ok so i'm gonna say it. If you are going to spend over a US$100 go for the courier option. Its just plain stupid to go and use the normal mail. Who uses that anyway in todays fast paced world. Me, i want my shit now and i wanted it yesterday, no matter the price.

Do you still write letters to your friend. No, so why would you use normal mail for sake of saving a couple of dollars.

No disrespect but someone had to say it.

Yeah Fudoc5!!! I get what you mean!!!.....Good to know I am not the only one sailing in this boat lol :pfft: ... will let you know If i get mine ...

Darkmanx... I would say yes and a no.... If there is a substantial diff in $ and as they say in bb...fast post ==>5 days and normal 7 to 14 days most people would do... But in saying that after my experience I will just go with fast courier

Finally got a mail from Ministry of Health telling me that an illegal item (prescription only) was seized from my package aka 2 X Oxyelite pro and the rest of the package will be sent to me soon… But on further request they said they are ready to post them back to bb (postal charges paid from my end)… BB is ready to refund the items if it reaches them intact :? 

Ok from what I understand, if you choose the broke-ass delivery option, they chuck it in a package with all the other orders from all the other broke-asses around the country.

The whole package then gets sent to nz. If one order out of the whole package has something illegal or prescription only then the whole bundle gets held up at customs.

Fedex ftw

Mine arrived today too, I made the order on the 12th of Nov - with no option for fast shipping (OrbitNutrition) - so a month and almost a week later.

Chased up with USPS early this week as the tracking number didn't work and I was beginning to get impatient, and they said the package wasn't sent (i.e. Orbit didn't post it) until the 6th of Dec! Left the states for NZ on the 11th. Not entirely sure why it takes a month to send a package - possibly they were waiting for more orders to fill to send them together, but if that's the case, $30USD for shipping is a bit steep if you just end up waiting for others to make orders.

On the positive side, I ordered Optimum ZMA, and Optimum Optimen which BB.com don't ship, and these got through no issues \:D/ I was actually on Shotgun/bb.co.nz this morning comparing prices and about to make an order, as I'm close to running out of my current supply - when I got a call from reception to say a package had arrived. Phew!

Even though I didn't have an option on this occasion, it's definitely reaffirmed to me how much better the courier is to use. Made another order today (from wheycheapdeals) and went Courier, hope it gets here before the end of the year but not too fussed.
