CBC The Legacy Begins

Old Bull

Recommended Posts

Had the pleasure on the weekend of meeting the CBC Crew and watching the Team in action. I just want to give big props to Steak and his family Rach and Emma for what they are doing.

Pushing a Powerlifting Gym, Team or Culture is a very big battle, a lot have gone broke with the Hardcore Gym setups. I know how hard it is running good comps, training, coaching, reffing, while trying to stay motivated. When your family is involved the job is a lot easier, with Ds family they compete which is even better, as they get to understand the commitment needed to train and stay focused and keep the Dream alive.

It is a tireless job running a good strength training facility, bang for buck it is not a good business venture but a few years down the track when the Team start winning National and International titles. That's when you see the fruits of your labour. His crew are hungry and are firing on 8 cylinders this energy will attract more lifters. Along the way a few will drop out but those that stay will push the legacy that CBC is building.

Thank You Damian Rachel and Emma

Strength and Honour

Well said OB, I couldnt have said any better myself. In the very short time Steak and Mrs Steak have been involved in the PL/Strength community they have already made huge inroads and a significant impact to the APA. Well done bro!! I look forward to returning to the new and improved CBC training facility to get smoked again...

Stay strong

Well said OB. I look forward to these guys attracting and developing more and more quality lifters over time. Even more important than that, in my opinion, is giving good people an opportunity to get involved. Inspiring story and one which will continue to grow. :)

Steak and Rach- when OB and Tonka give you the seal of approval, you know that you have arrived.

I gotta say the CBC team are genuinely some of the best people I have ever met and Im glad ive been able to be apart of it (albeit in a small way)

They have done a good service to our sport and will continue to do so for many years. Im sure many new lifters particularly females and juniors will be attracted to the club from the results so far.

Heres to many more years of tin smashing and BBQ demolishing

Mucho Respecto 8)

Both Rach and I are speechless! (and those that know me know that that is saying something  )

Seriously humbled by your words guys and even more motivated to keep pushing on in this sometimes thankless and costly venture. The support we have had thus far has been huge though and any little things that sometimes irk us fade away very quickly when we see the fruits of our labour in training and in the competitive arena. Its early days for us but the drive and passion is there and we are surrounded by great people like yourselves. We thank you hugely for your support and look forward to the future ahead with you all.

Just want to add, anyone who manages to get a missus who squats to depth must be doing something right :pfft:

That is a very good point. Get the whole family involved. I am in the gym at 6 am every morning, work a "real" job all day and then back to the gym from 5 pm until 7.30 pm. You need an understanding partner. Especially when you have kids. So maybe the key is to get them involved!

^ cosign that!

i regularly make the trip up, and i never consider the time or cost because the atmosphere is priceless. Ive played a few sports, but lifting seems to just attract a majority of good, straight-up people.

I think it has to do with the character and work ethic that is required to smash tin day/week/year after year, and people that can and do do it, have these qualities.

Damo, Rach and the fam are all of the above, and then some. They will continue to succeed, and they will keep getting the results they are getting. And i will be back up there everytime i come back to AK!!

Ok , I will be the dumbass of the thread, I am not to familiar with CBC, but sounds great if it only started in 2009, hope you guys keep on growing. (Pun could be intended even though I would guess this is more strength orientated than bbing) Where are you guys situated?

Hey Hennie...we are are based in Whangaparaoa and have a 200 sq/m facility. We do have a few BBs (competitive) and few saving up to be. There are about 8 competitive PLs here...more coming on line next year, rugby and leauge players, MMA and martial arts fighters, soccer and surfers along with a few girls changing body shapes.

We are a non profit org with about 60 members (some come and go  ) and we try to provide a hardcore enviroment...loud rock music, 5 squat racks, deadlift platform, tyres, chains, bands etc. Everyone seems to get along just fine and enjoy a cheap monthly, no contract of $35p/mth. If you ever passing let me know.

Sounds like a plan, well good on you for putting all the effort in a non profit org, seems the growth is well planned!

cheers...the reality of it is...there was little in the way of planning  The local gyms wouldn't let us train like we wanted to...chalk, use lots of plates for long periods, yelling, chains, bands etc and didn't have the gear for us to move forward in the sport so after some help from Dr Squat we leased a factory and put some gear in it. Its steamrolled from there to a level where we had to move to a bigger factory and keep adding to the gear. Being non profit suits the situation and maybe one day we will become a business...as long as the fun doesn't go out of it 8)
