Definitely a dark day, sympathy and condolences to the entire community.

On a slight tangent, have to offer kudos to the mine boss, head cop and John Key, for not punching some of those idiotic fucking reporters in the face in response to their moronic fucking questions and comments. Fucking fucktards.

Yeah R.I.P guys!

Coming from a Gas Industry background, i have been getting very annoyed when i hear from people "they should just send the rescue teams in it wont explode there just wasting time blah blah blah"... now all those people can just shut the f*ck up now that they can see exactly what would of happened to the rescue team if they had gone in.

Couldn't agree more  Nearly my entire extended family works in the Gas and mining industry so I know enough about the industry for the uneducated comments to touch a bit of a nerve.

It truly is one of the sadist days in NZ history, thoughts go out to anybody who may have known any of the 29.

Tribute to The Men of The Deeps.

As I hear these miners singing of their days spent underground,

My mind begins recalling, their words are so profound,

Their belting out a tune like each word was truly meant,

Men of coal, to sing like this, it's surely heaven sent.

Then I visualise the dust as it's carried in the air,

I begin to cough and choke the memory's so severe,

And the darkness that surrounds you in the belly of a mine,

Is once again remembered as the men sing, all in time.

These men who sing so proudly of working in coal mines,

Help me recall the memories of those oft forgotten times,

My heart it swells with pride as I hear the choir sing,

I wish I could repay them, for all the joy they bring.

I remember too the friends, we worked with side by side,

Some no longer with us, sadly they have died,

But the memories that are stirred by this choir from afar,

Will last another lifetime, they deserve a special star.

So I thank you, men of coal, men who sing about the pit,

For thoughts that are aroused, I enjoyed it, every bit,

You are singing for all miners' , and for those who've gone for keeps,

May we always hear this choir, named, The Men of The Deeps.

Sad, sad day. Incredible loss for families - an equally incredible loss for Peter Whittall (CEO). Right from the start I have admired his leadership and strength in having to deal with the media and council the families. Having only really just taken over as CEO, I hope he is afforded the ability to continue on and that the media give him the personal space to support the families and grieve himself.

I once had a long standing team member pass away due to a heart attack. That took a lot of focus to carry the team though - I can't imagine how daunting it must have been, and how tradgic it must feel to lose 29 in one week.

Respect: Peter Whittall ... Respect to you.

Absolutely gutted for the families down there. They played Brothers in Arms as a reflection song on the radio & I cried like a baby, can only imagine the grief felt by those who lost fathers, husbands /partners, sons, friends.

Black arm bands at NZSM in recognition.
