Well as far as i know you can do the courses online but it doesn't cary any substance in the way of NZQA. Apperently you have to do this either part time or full time from a college, polyteck or uni as you have to do all kinds of units that involve tutors to be there to grade you.

Plus you wont be eligible for student loans. Youd have to pay for a course like that out of your own pocket. Anyway i could be wrong but this is what i know as i have looked extensively at options for myself. The other thing is if even if you do get a course via correspondance youd need to check if you get REP's credits cause that is the only way youd get any job in the fitness industry in NZ is if you are registerd with them.

Good luck and would be keen to know if anyone else knows anything else. As i said i only go by the info i have been given by varios institutes, studylink and a few others.

Shit really? Cause distance learning is really my only option.

My partner studied Animal Care distance before and she got a loan from studylink?but ill have a look into it a bit more.

yeah not a problem buddy. This is the info ive been given as i looking to do a sports course as well and as an end result i decided to quit my work and go do it full time at the local college. The course is Certificate in Applied Sports which i believe is only run at 3 or 4 locations in the country and most of them in the south island.

There are many other courses but like i said you have to be enroled at a local uni, college or polyteck and it can be done full time or part time.

NetFIt is fully NZQA registered. Although you are not entitled to a student loan they do offer payment options. I have completed the Fitness Instructor cert - moving on the PT cert soon. From memory I paid half the course fee and then the rest by weekly instalments via direct debit - no interest on top. Give them a call and discuss their different payment options.

I found the Fitness instructor course to be on the 'basic side of things' but very well set out. Doing it through distance learning is a bit of a hassle when it comes to attending the workshops. There are only a couple each year and are held in the main centres - so that is added cost getting there for those. Once I had finished my initial assessments I had to wait 4 months before a workshop was held so I was basically left twiddling my thumbs wasting time instead of getting on and completing the course (you have to attend the workshops before moving onto the second part of the course).

Overall all I found Netfit a good way of gaining my Quals and the tutors and staff are very easy to deal with over the phone if you have any Qs.

So overall would you recommend doing it online through netfit, or should I really really try do it in a class room at a uni or something?

And can you really not get any sort of loan for it??

Sorry for all the questions ahah:D

If you want to do it through NetFit and can make it to the class room I do recommend that you do - it is much quicker to complete the assessments and gain the qualification than by doing it via distance learning. The courses are 100% NZQA accredited so no probs re the standard of the education provided. If you went down the uni path (Massy has some good opportunities) there are more options for further study in the future, for example completing a degree sport science etc.

city fitness is 1899 and only 6 weeks full time

not really a level 4 PT course tho and no confirmed dates for 2011 yet and waiting on interest of the course. also the citfitness pt course has only run once before in wellington!

SIT seems to be the go! 1600 for level 4 PT. full time mon-fri for 9 months starting march 14 2011. add on 400 if u wanna do the fitness instructor course level3 at the same time. that runs outside the times of the pt course.

IMO you should do a classroom course. I think you would get limited experience doing this online and in preparing a CV for employment I imagine that if you had trained some where like AUT (using Auckland as an example) or with a reputable industry provider then you would have a better chance of employment than say somewhere that churns out PT's in a matter of weeks. Just my 2c worth
