CityFitness Thorndon ?

Haha it really wont unfortunately

Time will tell.

They make too much money off the employed trainers they're churning out of their academy (about 3g's for the study + 55% of $ made until the do a certain amount of hours then 46%, 37%, 28% (not 100% sure on the last couple of percentages))

Yeah, I know about the training academy, Not quite sure about the quality of trainers they are turning out(No offence to anyone reading this who has been mindf*%ked with shitty fitness learning/training) but admittedly yes its great for shitty fitness $ wise. Not so great for noobs looking for quality trainers/pts with proper experience under their belts.

As CC said, there aren't too many lifters that will be bothered enough by the changes to shift gyms  The hot yoga setup will attract a wave of members - heck, have you seen how much those classes cost at a dedicated hot-yoga studio?! (not that I know :shifty:) - and your average enthusiast will continue to go, and sign up.

The added benefit of gyms across most parts of the country is another bonus to current/prospective members, one which I'll be a little sad to lose when I move on, but can always suck it up and casual it when in other parts of the country.

The atmosphere will change, sure, but I think the way they're heading is good for their business  So I don't blame them at all, but it's unfortunately not where I want to be.

Just my humble opinion :)

Most of the chicks at CF will be stung when you move to the house full time bro! :pfft:

So, the cardio machines are all downstairs, resting on nice black carpet tiles (which will of course remain pristine in the face of persistent sweat!) but...

In order to facilitate enlarging the female changing rooms, from 01 January (presumably temporarily) the gender of the changing rooms will be swapped.... the women will use the mens, and the men (including the male builders, I'm guessing) will use the womens' [.... this has so much scope to go wrong it's a lottery :)

I guess the question is about this supposed moves they making at CF Thorn, will they start doing the same at other branches. They are national and tend to do these changes to all branches eventually. If thats the case i will not sign up. I just had a 7day pass to test them out in Blenheim.

I think i might be Sticking to my current gym. By April next year the Stadium will be finished and from what i heard they got about $10mill worth of equipment going in. It will be interesting.

Soooo, did/has anyone tried getting out of their membership?

Lady that was going to buy mine has pulled out; she's moving areas so it will no longer suit her unfortunately

Might chuck it up on TM see what happens... Does anyone know what the fee is for cancelling if you can't wriggle out some other way?

IMHO it was more moving Thorndon in line with the other Cityfitness branches, than Thorndon being a template for their future changes. Just my experience from being a former member at one of the original branches, and having visited a couple across the country... :)

Pheeeew, just got a reply about costs to leave or transfer membership.

Transfer is what I expected, $35 for me to transfer it, and $39 for the new member to join, so $74 all up.

To cancel it - I have just under 12 months of the contract remaining - it'd be $285 :?

Definitely listing on TM.

Since you have told everybody on here that the gym is no good anymore you will have to spread the net wider.

Post a pic of yourself in TM ad and say you too can achieve this at XXXX for only $$$

isn't Gymrat moving to wellington?

That is soooooo mean bro! :pfft:

Haha, can I retract some of my previous statements? :shifty:

In all honesty though, the changes haven't been as bad as I thought they'd be... so far. The weights have a lot more room - almost a full floor now - only frustration is things are in slightly different places to where they were before so sometimes I get a bit lost :pfft: They're still doing work though so I'd be interested to see if this is pretty much how it'd stay or not. Nothing has been removed so far that I've noticed.

In saying that I still want to shift to Powerhouse, as that's where I feel I'll improve the best at this point

p.s. I think GR might be annoyed at Cfit Thorndon - they didn't reply to him about a job he enquired about :(

Um... the latest goss is:

a. they're replacing the defective lying leg press (guide rails bent, it sticks halfway), there's a new one on the way, as part of a consignment of new machine weights;

b. asked about putting a spin bike on the cardio floor - no go, too maintenance intensive, apparently smiley-signs102.gif and even using the bikes in the spin room when no class is on is a no-no;

and worst of all, but heard from two sources:

c. they're planning to take away all the pre-made heavy DBs, in favour of make-it-yourself bars, plates and clamps ???? (oh, and "heavy" DBs might mean "over 20kg"... which would be a royal PITA)

Do it guys (you and TFB), best move I've made for my training in quite some time.

I was on contract too (a year left), couldn't be arsed trying to squirm out of it, and luckily found a mate keen as to join so offloaded to him. Cost me $75 to transfer it but was just glad to cut ties.

Heard a rumour you can transfer to a child (someone under 18) and they can cancel it without penalty :shifty: :pfft: Pretty dodgy but might be an exploitable loophole - also better than looking at the $300 or so for an early cancellation otherwise!

We've been waiting since July last year to even get a lying leg curl, still not here. At least they're consistent

Yup, CityFitness are really turning their brand into more of a "fitness" place instead of a real gym

 :naughty: So sad, I'd jump ship if we had more than womens gyms in our shitty town

Apparently there's some other gym (not Don Olivers). There's gonna be a powerlifting comp there in April or something and Clive thinks I should enter. But yeah, there's that gym
