Although this is not a martial art it is based upon IDF (Isreali Defence Force) hand to hand combat, very effective when you know what to do.

fucken rip off, its not a martial art its a money making scheme... better going to see someone from the todd group they have depots thru out country, $20 a week for the auckland one, go as much as u like (4 nights a week they run classes). those krava maga guys are a bunch of wankers as well.

I've been doing Iron Palm and Iron Arm plus a bit of Qi Gong for a year 1 hour every day.

The plan is to break slabs of concrete with a slap.

no offence, but could you please tell me what is the point of being able to break a slab of concrete with a slap?

i got this thing called a sledge hammer, picked it up for $40 from mitre ten lol

...I would suggest CQB/CQC- did that for about 6 months and imo I learned a lot more useful things for self defense than I did in my 8yrs of judo. They do have different objectives but I would agree that most traditional martial arts only focus on one aspect (grappling or just striking).

CQB also strengthens up your core, grip and neck: If you want to get into CQB, go see Tim at fight times next to crichton cobbers- he's a phase 3 instrutor under Geoff "Tank" Todd (Todd Group Personal Protection)

Rookie

I had training with Tank and others in his organisation, in Dunedin and Auckland. This is good shit. Gross motor skills, and aim to maim.

LOL i heard there was a clip of some aikido master taking on ten guys and beating the shit out of them. Then he takes on an mma dude and gets whooped.

Heres one of the many MANY clips of differnt Martial Arts instructors making claims and getting hurt by MMA fighters

Quite hilarious really haha.

The best part about MMA is that it takes the best parts of every martial art and slams them together into whatever you want it to be. You can choos yourself how much striking, wrestling, grappling etc to incorperate into your training. Its not set at all. Personally i prefer the Muai Thai and BJJ aspects.

Plus is hell fun when your pissed with mates hahahahah

Guys you just beat up don't fight back either. :pfft:

Seriously if you can smash a hanging coconut you can break a human skull. Blocks are just part of the process. You move on to multiple hanging bags filled with steel shot. Iron arm gives you super hard arms that don't just block punches but do damage. Iron body etc.

I like doing it but I know its not for everybody. I will be adding some BJJ, muay thai and wing tsun training 2011 so I have over all skills.

For me basic conditioning is the most important foundation.

Just remember fancy MMA is good for one opponent only. Or what if a dog attacks you ? Cant MMA wrestle a dog but with Iron Palm you could get rid of it pretty easy. I'd rather slap a dog that try prying its front legs apart. Same with multiple human attackers.

PS: I only fight for defense

Im sure that when a pit bull realises hes latched on to your iron palm he will let go.

Handy skill that. Especially if your aim is to become a long-term guest of Her Majesty's penal system. See, a big part of acting in self-defense is a nifty wee thing called "reasonable force". I think you'd have a hard time convincing acourt that your cracking of a man's skull was reasonable.

Also a big part of the training is the maturity to be able to act with restraint, not brag about your superhuman abilities.

Also I dont think you will find many people that act like a hanging coconut when they are attacking you.

Thats one thing id LUUUURVE to try. Ive never really done any board breaking shit yet, but wouldn't mind doing it. If you've been in a street fight before you know that even if you trained in fighting and land a solid hit on someone in the head, it hurts the next day lol.

Just another thought for NZBB and self defense. Getting massive in itself is a great form of self defense. If someone gets to the point where they really are gonna fight you, they think in their head that they will win. Why not win them over psychologically though a strong physical presence, stop the fight before it even happens

There is a gulf of difference between Martial Arts and a "real fight". That is why boxing and TKD don't work in the real world.

I have had a real fight and BJJ came in really useful (I put the guy to sleep), however the best defence is not to fight at all. Just walk away.

Conditioning wise, MMA/BJJ training will win hands down. If you don't think so take a class and then you will see. Most people who do a BJJ class for the first time realise how crappy their cardio actually is.

I agree the best defense is not to fight - even if you look like a wuss.

Its enough to know you are better than that childish fighting.

Those who knock the "Iron Palm" - its a foundation skill of all Chinese martial Arts & is 1000 year old method.

Is a 1000 year old sword still useful in a war?

whats the likly time frame for procedding through the belts or ranks?

From what I understand from my sister and her friends it kind of depends on you and your background in many ways. So to start off with if you're naturally skilled you might 'double grade' and skip a belt, which my brother did early on.

If you have some kind of background already in martial arts you might fly through - my ex brother in law gave up one form when he and my sister split up, and he was a 5th dan black belt at the time. Five years have gone by, somewhere along the line he took up another form, and he's recently graded his second dan black belt, and that swift progress is down to the transferrable skills he took from his first form.

fully agree, we have guys who trained Sambo in russia (which is very close to judo) and they picked it up very quick, we also got people who trained another form of martial arts and they also picked it up...

then you have the retards like myself who try to use the good old "strength over technique" method and end up getting bashed by someone 3/4 their size :P

here is something I found...not sure hwy it lacks Karo :(
