BodyTech (Viaduct)

Anybody been/go to BodyTech Viaduct?

I'm looking at jumping ship from cityfitness Newmarket to BT 'cause I have physio in the same building twice a week and it's much closer to home.

I met up with the guy that runs BT yesterday evening and the place looks amazing! I've heard BT is expensive, but to be honest as long as I get results then I'm happy to pay whatever I can afford!

Thoughts/experiences/feedback? ^_^

nevermind, I just heard back from them!

*way* outside what I can afford :(

$175 p/month on a 12-month contract, plus 1/2 hr PT sessions at $65 each.

I'd be paying $175 PER WEEK there. I pay $16 p/week at cityfitness!

Woah ~$40 per week! (without a trainer) There better be some major perks for that price!

$40 a week for a gym membership isnt that much of a big deal. people spend over $10/day on a packet of ciggarettes if you put that into perspective. and overseas in populated countries u will see gym memberships more expensive than NZ. plus the people going to the $40/week gym earn numerous times more than average so its all relative, they pay for a clean modern facility because thats what they want from a gym not 70kg dbs

they rent is probably big down the viaduct and its aimed at corporate ppl. not everyone is a wannabe bodybuilder, powerlifter or think they the next ufc champion lol. some people just go to the gym for some time out from the office or they family... for some people this is the only free time they have to themselves.

people pay for convenience.

yeah too true, its about if people see the value in the membership. Also at $40 a week its in the upper end of the market so service and quality is obviouly quite high and crowding isn't going too be much of an issue. At the end of the day its all realitive to what you pay and what you get, the rest is up to the customer to make the most of it and if the gym provides to their needs. Like tom said not everybody wants to be training with gym grunters

I agree with the last 2 posts, it's all about preference.

Side note: This is the first time I can remember Tom and Mr Nat agreeing on something?!? (not a dig, just an observation).

Obviously most Bodybuilders will like a massive range of free weights, some well engineered leverage machines like Hammer or Nautilus etc as well as plenty of pin loaded accessory machines.

Power lifters will be attracted to heavy commercial strength gear (racks, 1/2 racks, a variety of trap and olympic bars etc)

Strongman comp athletes will go for their specialized equipment.

Like it or not, Bodytech is catering for a market, it probably doesn't fit most on this site(myself included), but they probably dont want or need physique or strength athletes to exist either, just well financed professionals working in the areas where they operate.

One up side of trying a gym that you find doesn't suit you is that it really helps you decide just what you want from a training environment.

Obviously this gym caters to a certain market, or it wouldn't be in business - I'd have thought that much was fairly obvious... :-s

I do notice that they are a supervised gym ("spotters" walk around helping out I guess?), which would definitely help some people, so can see the attraction there for sure

Personally I wouldn't pay that much for any type of gym membership unless there was no other option (or it was exceptional in some way), but then, that's just my view :)

Anyone keen to try it out and post a review? Maybe compare it to other gyms in the area? (Les Mills Victoria St wouldn't be far off, would it?)

Its all relative. $40 is less than you would pay a tradesman an hour to work on your car or house. It buys 4-5 drinks at an inner city bar or as said earlier a few packs of smokes. If you are buying supplements $40 doesnt even stratch the surface. I constantly hear people saying they cant afford to go to the gym while sitting back watching sky on their 50 inch plasma

I'd be happy to try it out & post reviews if somebody feels like sponsoring me!!

Ask if they'll give you a trial period, I reckon they would  Just say you're weighing up gyms in the area so would like to try it out and see if it's what you're after 8)

Was in auckland a few weeks ago for the weekend and paid $20 in Greenlane for a workout.

Was not a gym i would normally frequent as mostly machines but such was my withdrawal symptoms made do, had a good work out anyway.

Used some machines never seen before, worked up a sweat came away happy.

Could easily have spent the $20 on breakfast elsewhere ( oophs think i did haha)

Interesting, brings to mind an assignment we did at college where we had to explain the perfect gym membership. Pick up and drop off service, free drinks, massage, free towels, bathrooms fully equiped, full kitchen and pantry. Just a few perks for corporates. IMO a very small percentage of the gym market but with hiked up prices, would be an interesting scenario.

From what I make of it body Tech Viaduct would be more suited for the average corporte person who works in that plus Body Tech wouldn't suit me that's if I lived in Auckland I rather go to a gym that has big range of free weights, machines etc

Not even a couple of hundred. But when converted you probably looking at like $25-$35 depending on type of contract you take out.
