Results from the IFBB mens worlds

The standard at world champs is freaky. I suspect there are many astue judges of bodybuilding that would agree that the guy(s) who won the 65kg, 70kg or 75kg class at the IFBB worlds this year would beat every competitor from NZ on stage (at any weight) over the last 10 years, including all of the IFBB pros from this country except Moe (admittedly the best of the emerging group wouldnt be totally embarrased in a comparison), and probably Mark Anderson from NABBA.

If we really wanted to have a 'dig' at the quality of the NZBB scene how about we say that there are over 1 million women in NZ that are heavier than a guy from Russia, current IFBB world 65kg champion, a man that would beat any NZ bodybuilder over the last 5 years bar Moe, and Mark Anderson. This is not meant to be direspectful to all the big guys like Nat and others that are improving - just pointing out a fact.

Clearly, NZ bodybuilding competitors could not be desrcibed as the All Blacks of the BB world. We are more like Argentina in that we have a couple of world class big boys in the front row, a number of talented BB's capable of competiting on the international stage, and a quality amatuer half back. To take the rugby analogy further, it is our women bb competitors that much more resmble our world champion balck ferns. Perhaps their focus on quality offers insights that will support the sport as a whole?

Congrats to Sup, Sanjeev, and Dan for putting their bodies up for critique on the world stage. I have seen the photos of your competitors and you were up against total freaks of nature.

Big congratulations to Daniel. 5th place on the international stage, brilliant, I know how you feel mate. Two 5th's so far for the kiwi men this year at NABBA and IFBB internationals with Peter Hunt still to go for the IFBB Masters.

Its bloody tough to place there are so many freaks. Consider Justin Wessels and Ange Galati who beat everyone this year across all federations in Australia and placed 3rd and 5th respectively I can tell you they were very very happy with their placings at the NABBA Universe.

I can also understand Sanjez pridacment turning up late and only just getting on stage. One year at the IFBB worlds Tony Ligaliga and myself were late ( bus issues) and I was tanning up Tony's back as he walked onstage. Luckily I was in the next weight class so I had a little bit more time. Thanks to Phil Hope backstage coming up with a story that we were in the toilet being sick and would be out at the very last minute. He managed to get our competitor numbers for us.

Will post up some great photos that my wife took at the Universe soon as just got home today from our extended holiday through England and then the US with the credit card full and lots of extra lugagge. Phil K.

One wonders how this could be in a drug tested competition. "16 athletes from the FINALISTS were taken to doping control this year (including winner of +100kg class Ahmed Hamouda, winner of -75kg class Ali Husain Jasim, Vugar Verdiyev, Leonid Istomin) " :? ref MD Forums

Doc this is nz bodybuilding... what do you think?

Um, Tom, I assume that he will do a pro show in somewhere like Australia? And someone like Lee Priest will ask if him if he left his best bodypart in customs?

But seriously and with due respect. Surely this is a wake up call to reign in the pro cards? I would like to see him on stage at the Nationals next year.
