Well done on Daniels part, but dam look at that score card. The bloody Russian totalled 19, Dan at 5th was at 80. How do you get to that level the Eastern Europeans do? Same happens at NABBA. Looking forward to the Pics. Sanjeev be wondering what to do with that Pro Card

   Farrrrk, don't often see shredded glutes like that!

or is he 15th and the other 3 guys not receive a top 15 place ?

That was the impression I got when reading it - Supry got 15th, the ones listed below him did not place in the top 15?

:pfft: the dude in the background with his arms folded looks like he thinks he should have dieted a bit longer on seeing Daniel.

I think Daniel Hibbs has proven the NZ judges right with his placing. Well done

How do you come to that conclusion?

It makes sense hes so good as a small bodybuilder he must be able to compete with the big boys.

Just cos he does well in his class doesnt mean he should be competative with the big boys

Apparently Sanjeev was turning up to the venue as he class was entering the stage so had to make a mad dash and tan on the run just to make judging, hence why he placed out of the top 15.

You have a fair point Jimjim but you have to remember IFBB puts more emphasis on conditioning than mass as also shown by the 76kg overall Aus winner Ange. Daniel hibbs has proved his conditioning package is world class in a class that is all about conditioning. Therefore I think this vindicates the judges view who awarded him the overall NZ title. But hey I realize BB is a very subjective sport, simply because it is 'judged', and you're entitled to your own opinions. I think NABBA shows would be more your style

Well done Dan, F*&KING insane conditioning  if only we could all get that conditioning.

Seems a bit strange  would have thought you'd be there a couple hours early to avoid such an outcome. In saying that though you never know what can happen on the way to the event.

Well done to all the boys, just getting to the world stage is a top effort.

Just because someone is big doesn't make them good, consider Kovacs at the Arnold - biggest guy coming last - ugly body.

The Warehouse is a big building, doesn't make it the Taj Mahal.

Good judges will reward conditioning and balance over sheer mass with no condition. I been on the giving and receiving end of those judging calls when I was cut and when I was portly.

Which of the big guys at the Nats would you have said should have beaten Dan? The biggest guy that was competing onstage wouldn't think he should I know that.

You would be doing well to find a warehouse bigger that the Taj Mahal, bad comparison! :pfft: :pfft:

Maybe it shows the sad state of athletes when he is winning.

He has no back no chest small arms. Sure he has great condition but it is bodybuilding after all.

Should go compete in nabba.

My point was 'what does Hibb's placing at the worlds have to do with the quality of the judges at the nationals'? I presume there is some sort of vague justification tied up in there somewhere. But, let's not get too carried away with his 5th placing in his class. Nobody can dispute his conditioning. I really have no idea whether he should have won at the Nationals or not. I think this has been debated to death.

I still have this uncomfortable feeling with such a little guy winning the overall title. I take on board what you have said but that is just a personal view I have as a bodybuilding supporter. This is not meant to be a disrespectful shot at Hibbs. Remember, that neither he or his brother care what others think anyway.

On a side note, NZ bodybuilding is going through a tough time it seems. A bunch of average established pros, question marks over the quality of new pros and an apparent lack of confidence in the administration. I hope that things can be restored quickly.

On those points Doc,

What Daniel did was place 5th in the U65kg class at a World level with what was insane conditioning. I'll be the first to say what an awesome achievement Daniel

However I agree the Worlds placing has nothing to do with validating the National Title win. Seperate issues. Period.

I'm a fan of mass too Doc, and like you I also find it strange that someone of Daniel's size can win a national overall title regardless of condition.

Again he's a great competitor but if we look at the best locally from NABBA could you really see him standing next to Mark Anderson? Probably a better comparison would be with Lisa from Chch who weighs slighly more than Daniel on stage (no offense intended either Lisa or Daniel, just pointing out a fact).

At the end of the day Daniel's win may or may not have been justified, if it was however it does show the lack of caliber of the guys in the heavier weight classes as you point out Doc.

I'm not going to get caught up in all the politics of NZ BBing but hopefully as you say things are on the up again.
