Why you only having it when bulking??

Personally I have 2 scoop shake with water and oats at the same time every morning.

I've never done pre-breakfast shakes, but if you're bulking what's with the water? MILK  Tastes a shitload better and more calories for you.

The reason I would say water in the morning and not milk is to get that protein in ASAP since you having effectively been fasting all night.

There's nothing wrong with fasting, quick versus slightly slower absorption in the morning is really a non-issue. You're having flax oil with it, that alone will slow the absorption slightly as well. The only time I'd argue that you need the quickest absorption so using water is best would be post workout.

That said, milk vs water really is a personal preference as well. I just love the extra taste it adds, and an easy way to get some extra cals in. If you prefer water and don't need the extra cals from milk then stick with water, but don't think you have to use water because fastest absorption is essential first thing in the morning.

But the casein in the milk wont slow the absorption of the whey

If you want it absorbed ASAP then get some aminos

So you're saying there shouldn't be any difference in the absorption rate using water or milk? I've never actually read any research about different proteins altering absorption, just repeating the old 'everyone knows' crap

Yup, look at the multi stage release proteins. If the calcium caseinate in that slowed the absorption of the whey, what would be the point of having the whey, right?

Keep costs of production down? Whey is the cheapest correct? Although even if it did slow the absorption I'd imagine the whey would still be absorbed first/fastest and serve that purpose anyway. Not disagreeing with you, I just don't consider that as proof. Again my curiosity has been spiked, off to search for some studies, damn I'm good at procrastinating :pfft:

I see what you're saying and I'm not sure what actually happens in the digestion process but whey is the easiest to break down so it will break down relatively quickly. I don't see a reason as to why the casein will slow the absorption of the whey. Plus milk isn't all casein, it has whey too
