Here's one for all you Metrosexual Beach Boys. Sorry this is not a dig at IFBB but WTF will be next. Best if the Male Model types stick to "Oui" & leave BBing Shows to those that have done their time in the gym. :D

October 20, 2010

TO: NPC District Chairpersons

FROM: Jim Manion

SUBJECT: 2010 BOARD OF GOVERNORS CHANGES

At our meeting held on October 14, 2010 in Atlanta, Georgia the following changes were approved for 2011.

New Men’s Physique Division

Beginning in 2011 a new division for men will be introduced – Men’s Physique. The following are the guidelines/rules.

Judging Criteria:

* Muscularity and Body Condition

Judges will be looking for fit contestants who display proper shape and symmetry combined with muscularity and overall condition. This is not a bodybuilding contest so extreme muscularity should be marked down.

* Stage Presence and Personality

Contestants will be asked to walk in board shorts (shorts must be just above the knee in length and can be one inch below the belly button, no spandex and no logos are permitted on the board shorts however a manufacturer’s logo such as Nike symbol or Billabongs are acceptable.) Competitors will enter the stage without a shirt and barefoot. No lewd acts allowed for example the moon pose. Judges are looking for the contestant with the best stage presence and poise who can successfully convey his personality to the audience.

COMPETITION JUDGING

Presentation:

* Competitors will walk to the center of the stage alone and perform quarter (1/4) turns with optional pose of hand on hip or hand in pocket, face the judges as directed then proceed to the side of the stage.

Comparison Round –

* The competitors will be brought back out in a group and directed to do quarter turns

* Judges will have the opportunity to compare competitors against each other in quarter turns.

Promoters can choose to have one class or two. For contests with two classes:

* Up to including 5’8”

* Over 5’8”

National level contests do not permit competitors to crossover into Bodybuilding. All other competitions are permitted to have crossovers at the discretion of the promoter with district chairperson’s approval.

Who Qualifies for National Level Men’s Physique Competitions:

Competitors that place in the top five (5) in each class at national qualifying contests will have a one year qualification for national level events.

Note: For 2011 a place in the top five (5) of any Men’s Physique contest will qualify you for national level contests.

QUALIFYING FOR IFBB PROFESSIONAL STATUS:

* JUNIOR USA CHAMPIONSHIPS – Top 2 placers in the overall comparison earn IFBB Pro Card

* JUNIOR NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS – Top 4 placers in the overall comparison earn IFBB Pro Card

* TEAM UNIVERSE – Height class winners earn IFBB Pro Card

* USA CHAMPIONSHIPS – Height class winners earn IFBB Pro Card

* IFBB NORTH AMERICAN CHAMPIONSHIPS – Top 2 placers in the overall comparison earn IFBB Pro Card

* NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS – Height class winners earn IFBB Pro Card

If I wait long enough they will bring in the big and chubby division that I can compete in.

This is worse that the bikini class.

Any one who is skinny enough but not carrying any muscle will be able to compete. This would be the majority of weekend cyclists and recreational joggers!

Wider audiance, blah blah blah what a lot of shit!!

:doh:

Err, I thought we already had a class called "Physique"? That is, the original class, where contestants competed on size? If that's not called Physique, what is it? :think:

Exactly!!! What are they gonna call the actual physique boys now??

I'm so glad you said that - I thought I was just being my usual misinformed self wondering the same!

The ENHANCED PHYSIQUE class! :pfft: :grin:

Or maybe just the MENS class, it would be easy to distinguish from the new PRE-PUBESCENT BOYS PHYSIQUE class! :pfft: :grin:

Sorry couldn't help it! I thought Athletic class was bad enough when that came in, then Bikini Class. But hey maybe I'm just change adverse?! Mike Kingsnorth has a take on the bikini class that suggested it was a logical progression given the shift in physiques in other classes, maybe the same applies for mens classes.

Either way I'm not keen to pay to watch 'boxer short models' on stage in lieu of 300lb mass monsters! :nod:

More competitors = more $$$

This is really the work of all those "fans" that have never fucking competed (cause their bodies suck!!!) bitching and moaning about mass monsters destroying the sport!

Nate, promise me NZPF wont introduce a 1/4 squat division!!!

I assure you that NZSM will never have a 40kg rock lift, a 60kg farmers walk, and a 50kg log press regardless of spectator numbers!

Could be a "stripped down" version of the male fitness model class they had at NABBA Wellington. :pfft:

Another potential easy way to a "Pro Card". I'm sure I've got some boardies somewhere.

Nobody is arguing for it like they did bikini class.

Seems as though its okay for the ladies to have a soft option but not the men.

Pro card f*ck me, joe average gets a bodybuilding pro card for not having excess muscles what has the sport come to

You've got to be f'n kidding!!! It's getting harder and harder to be a proud bodybuilder. Jokes aside shit like this just waters down and weakens our sport...IT'S NOT A BEAUTY PAGENT!!! Yes it's f'n hard to train and diet to get to a competitive standard and yes not many can do it well but lowering the standards so more peolple can "participate" it's bullshit and puts me off competing.

I can see the point of the new class - I don't think it's about more spectators, because lets face it, BB'ing is not a spectator sport. It's about getting more people in the sport.

With the new class it looks to me like the average Joe now has this class as a way to give the sport a go without

1. the need to work for 5 years to realise they don't have the genetics

2. the fear that they'll turn into a Mac Truck and not fit into their Ford Laser any more.

im not sure if i will ever compete but if i do i want to step on stage with guys that have spent many years training hard with the goal to get as big as possible and then dieting down while maintaining as much mass as they can.

not a bunch of posers who have worked out to show there bodys off at the beach.

To me that's the point - this class gives newbies a chance to get involved without waiting for many years.

It's like a mid-week, after work mix doubles tennis comp for anyone. Just a hit and giggle - but it get's people involved and hooked

Interesting to note that Bob Cicerillo, IFBB Mens Athlete Rep, has come onboard MD Forums to comment on why he's pushing a new 20% less rule in Womens Physique Division & has even stated that it will be out of IFBB after 2011. Looks like the top brass at IFBB are all getting a bit soft.

I have a funny feeling that Nick Smith now has a new goal. :pfft:

:pfft: :naughty: Poor Nick. I think you are too short for this Division though, Doc :grin:

It's all about stage presence bro. I will tell them that I love babysitting, roller blading and sponsoring starving children. And one day I want to work for the UN as a peace keeper. :shifty:
