When should you start ab training??

Chill out ladies, some people are genetically gifted enough to not train abs to have deep cuts others not so lucky.

Fitness models are a shit example, bodybuilders have better abs than them PERIOD!

Any more than 3x a week is over kill and in my experience 2 sessions (focusing on different areas) is ample

I lean towards unweighted, high rep stuff (my preference), the heavy stuff tends to thicken your abs which isn't all too necessary

ok, can i see your abs?

hmmmmm no homo aye bro haha im just stating that what you said is rather silly a muscle is a muscle and like pete just said to train them all the time is ridiculous and the reason you can get away with it is that doing mainly bw movements will only build up alot of lactic acid more than anything else yes it will strengthen them but heavy compound moves will do the same and when the bf is low you will see them but also based on your genetics will determine how you will look

And to see my abs I will have to lose about 5kg which at the moment I aint gonna be doing lol but when I do il be happy to show them and I will never do any iso moves for abs I hate them so I dont do them and my core strength is fine

well the thing with legs is you are on on them all day so to break down the fibres enough you may need a little more volume training but I have trained plenty of guys with plain old heavy lifts reps 2-10 and there legs grew fine so its hard to say who is right

just like the whole mentzer vs arnold thing arnold would train for hours everyday where mike would train 1-3 times a week only doing a couple sets both had awesome physiques who was right??

just like dorian yates or ronnie coleman both were 2 of the best ever and both did heavy weight low reps especially coleman doing 800pound squats 2 weeks before a comp

skiped a few posts, but just remembered a month ago I did 180x9 deadlift from 4inch box, what was a good PR, for 3days my abs and entire sides of my body n shit were totally fucked.

Also yesterday was doing 70kilo walking lunges, what was a good PR and 2day my lower abs are sore.

thought id throw that out there

Quickly skipped through this thread and it seems the same old stuff that has been beaten to death many times before.

Like I always say, everybody is different! If your abs are not how you want them to be work them harder and vica versa. All this back and worth crap about do work them, don't work them, fitness models are better, no bodybuilders are is just a waste of time.

To the original poster:

Play around with things and find what works for you. It may take 12 weeks or so but you will work it out.

i think the way you train your whole body may have something to do it.

Im only guessing, but fitness models may have to do so much work on their abs because they dont train with heavy free weight compounds that often, if at all. In the same way those whose training consists of mainly near maximal free weight compunds or unilateral work wont have to do as much. Well thats what i tell myself anyway to rationalize me not doing ab work lol.

  • 5 weeks later...
He means ya already got abs, we all do or we can't walk upright. You gotta cut the fat to show them off.

Haha sorry Russ but not what I meant

As your abs grow, they get thicker, this will occupy a lot of space on your abs which will look just fucked if you aren't wide enough in the quads, delts and lats
